I recently left Royal Bank for a local credit union/bank. TBH, contrary to what most people say, I did not really have any issues with the service at RBC. However I had always heard of how we should stop supporting the big banks because of how evil they are, and I heard about what RBC did and it was the straw that broke the camel's back. They fired a whole bunch of employees and made them train their replacements: "Temporary" foreign workers.
A LOT of companies, especially banks, are doing this. Why? TFW do not need to be paid minimum wage, given benifits, and other expenses such as taxes. So companies are outsourcing to them instead of hiring locally because it's cheaper. These are companies already making BILLIONS of dollars per quarter, yet they are so greedy they want to make even more, and put people on the streets to do so.
I'm quite happy with the local bank so far, and when I pickup the phone and call, it's actually someone in my own city that answers, not someone over seas. It's also a co-op. Mortgage and RRSPs are all moved, and so is checking and credit card/line. Giving it a few months to ensure all the stuff comes out from the new bank and I'll be closing everything at RBC.
