I'm gonna venture a guess and say you do not have the flu if you've had it for 3 weeks.

Bacterial bronchittus has been spreading like wildfire here in central Florida. Kicked my friend's ass a month ago, and kicked my ass a week ago. Still have a very slight cough, but I've almost got it taken care of.

A real case of the flu can last weeks. Flu-like symptoms are often mistaken for Influenza.

i just had a lung infection for 2 weeks, which onset after breathing some water into my lungs at the pool. talked to my brother & another friend on the phone today, both recovering from a cough/ cold.

definitely seems like a lot of people are under the weather.

I know how you feel. I got it over Christmas (was throwing up on my flight back). It took me over a month before I felt perfectly back to normal. Next year I'm definitely getting a flu shot.

My roommate got it from me but he went to the doctor immediately and got some tamiflu which I think helped.

I dunno though... flu + recovery shouldn't take 3+ weeks.

Not saying it's anything to worry about, if you're still alive now, and feel like your making a recovery, albeit a slow one, then you're through the worst. Just stating it might have been something else. But that's how I am - I like to try and determine exactly what plagued me, I don't like just classifying something as one illness when it didn't feel like that for me.

Could have been a sinus illness, or one that progressed into the other or just occurred around the same time. I've had that before - 2 weeks with a sinus infection, on the fast track toward recovery and then slammed with a flu, or flu-like symptoms, and following that week the symptoms of my sinus infection return with a vengeance and proceed to kick my ass for 4 more weeks, with that last week being recovery with antibiotics.

I hate sinus infections. I'm prone to them, basically annually get taken down at least once.
Had a strange one a few weeks ago, I think it must have attacked a different sinus cavity because I had different symptoms compared to my typical sinus infection. Threw me for a spin for sure.

Hmm... good point, as flu-like symptoms are quite general and non-specific as far as illnesses go, with so many diagnoses of infectious diseases starting with "experiencing flu-like symptoms" and then added symptoms.

However, I will say I know for sure I've had the flu before on multiple occasions, always with a fever, that never lasted more than 2 weeks time, including recovery. And even then, recovery is just the word used... I'm back on my feet and feeling 95% after little more than a week in most instances, the next week maybe a little sluggish on long days, maybe a little malaise, and maybe weaker in the physical strength department. I get sick a lot but I tend to bounce back fairly quickly once the actual fever or other symptoms are gone (sinus infection not withstanding, as with me it'd either full on and recovery in a few days max). I would say it would be the cold in some instances but fevers with cold are very rare. True influenza is quite common, maybe some just have a tendency to experience them for shorter or longer bouts, or maybe it depends on the strain that is common in the area at that time.

When it comes to any other infectious diseases, the added symptoms tend to appear enough to the point that it becomes easy to say whether its simple the flu or something else

I had whatever it was over Thanksgiving......First time in my life I ever missed more then a day of work. Miised 2 weeks and actually took me a month and a half to get over it.....

It was a flu like illness combined with pneumonia.

Nastiest crap I ever had.

I feel for you dude. The flu knocked me out for probably 2 weeks last year. This year I've been out for 3 weeks with some chest/lung infection that's been misdiagnosed a few times. First was viral bronchitis. Then it was tuberculosis. Now, the past week of X-rays, blood work, sputum tests, and CT scans, I'll get my diagnosis tomorrow. Probably some form of pneumonia for me.

Guy says "sick of being sick? give me a call. My name is Mike MeTooSick"

Obviously the guy wanted you to have "MeTooSick" bouncing around in your head.
