Sick leave in New Jersey

I've worked a lot of jobs over the past 26 years here in New Jersey, everything from factory work to construction to delivery boy to concrete inspector, probably 30 or more jobs since the age of 16. I started a new job recently, and was told that although I would be eligable for two weeks vacation after a year, there was no sick time alloted for employees. If we need to take a sick day, we do not get paid for the day off. In all of the jobs I've had, I've never run into this. I've tried looking up the laws of New Jersey to find out if this is legal or not, and keep running into a lot of legal mumbo jumbo, and talk about the new "Family Leave" that everyone seems to be up in arms about (which has nothing to do with taking a sick day once in a while).

Does anyone know if there is a law that states that New Jersey employees are entitled to a certain number of paid sick days per year, after a certain number of days worked with any company? If so, can you show me a web page that states this, so I can bring it to my employer's attention?

I've worked a job in NJ that had no paid sick leave... but that doesn't necessarily mean it's legal. And that was 7-Eleven.

I've never heard of that to be honest hoyaguru 😕

New Jersey employees have the right to 6 weeks paid sick leave to care for sick immediate family members, newborn children, or newly adopted children. This is a very new law, and it runs concurrently with FMLA leave (though you do not have to be eligible for FMLA leave). It is not your normal paid sick leave. You must have worked 20 calendar weeks for your company, and you are paid 2/3rds of your avg. weekly wage up to $524/wk. Technically, it's not a leave law, just a wage replacement law.

Edit: spelling

Same here...I've worked both types- where I got sick leave, and where I got PTO - to be used for sick or vacation time off

*edit*
I should add this is in Washington/Oregon

I know state laws can differ but there is no FEDERAL law mandating companies to give employees paid sick leave, or any other paid leave for that matter. Any sort of sick, personal, vacation, annual, etc. leave is simply a benefit the employer is offering to their employees.
