Sick days.

My boy had a 103F fever last night, today it's down to 100.3F. Of course, the prudent thing to do is keep him home even though he's feeling fairly chipper this morning, since odds are he'd get to school and half an hour later I'd get a call from the school nurse anyway.

What's that mean for me? I use my first sick day of the year since my wife is out of town for the weekend. I'm the kind of person that drags myself to work even if I'm a few pints low on blood, have several broken bones and am bleeding profusely from various orifices.

Speaking of the devil, guess who just walked out and said "Daddy, I'm feeling better..." Oh the things we do for our kids.

the weather around here is really nice for taking the day off. supposed to hit 70 .. and they're calling for the chance of snow on monday.

I think the real reason you will never have one is that you would have to find someone willing to sleep with you first.

don't you have "family care day"?

when we merge with wells fargo, we lost all 10 days of "family care day", but replaced with 5 days of general PTO. it's good for people with no kids or wife. our "sick days" has been part of PTO for years.

Kinda sucks, I try to keep a handful of PTO days in my pocket for the kids sick days/snow days, and then I'm usually struggle to use them in December.

Welcome to the club. My daughter has inner ear infections in both ears, and hand, foot, & mouth disease. She was running almost a 104 temp last night...ED said "don't come here unless it's over 105".

Le sigh.

So I'm home with her. I get sick days, but only for "me" being sick. If it's a kid I use PTO.

Don't have the ability to work from home? On the rare occasions that I'm home with a sick child, I just log in from home unless I end up needing to take a kid to the doctor.

I did two days this week with one of my sons. He missed four days of school. But, I'm salaried and able to work from home, so it doesn't count against me.

I'm getting more sick time than PTO at this point since I'm still new here (2 years) so I long for a chance to use up all that sick time. Sniffy nose? SICK! Kid with a fever? SICK!

Enjoy the time off with your kid, play some games and relax. You've got the rest of your life to work.

First my daughter got sick, she's a teacher. Then the two-yr-old. Daughter went to the hospital, turns out she has the flu AND she's expecting. Daughter gets out of hospital, still sick as a dog. Two-yr-old gets better. Son-in-law gets sick. Two-yr-old gets sick again, goes to doctor, goes into hospital - dehydration (two-yr-olds can get really sick really fast!). Son-in-law gets better. Daughter is stabilizing, and finally rid of her flu. Two-yr-old is gaining strength and they throw him out of the hospital. He's getting better.

Seven-yr-old comes down the stairs and says, grandma, I feel funny. Urrrrp.

I'm the adult relative who works at home and has flexible hours, so I get to stay with them. I've lost a huge amount of income from not working - but it's "okay" because I don't have a "regular" job.

hopefully they all get kicked in the nuts repeatedly so they cant bear more tainted fruit like you then.


i will send em to school anyway, when i get the call a couple hours later, i can leave work, take what im working on home with me and still get paid for a full day. if i call in and dont show, i have to take a pto day. weird set up but it works overall. luckily about 80% of what i do can be completed anywhere in the world. ive even worked while sitting at dennys, enjoying some fries and an iced tea.

no matter how well he feels its 24hs after the fever dissipates before you're supposed to send him back into the trenches. It sucks but thats the fun of having kids.

On behalf of all grateful (or ungrateful) young parents out there I say thank you to you for taking care of your family the way you do!

I know my mom and my mother-in-law bail me out of tough binds all the freaking time.

I wish I had kids so I could be "Sick" like my fellow co-workers. One chick took nearly 2 weeks off because her kid wasn't feeling well or she wasn't feeling well.
