Any of you ever HAD to do this because nobody could cover your shift?

Nobody could cover my shift, their excuses were "I'm going to the beach today, sorry."

ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It's sickening! I always cover for people, and I will NEVER EVER cover for anyone again.

I'd never go in sick.
seriously.. risk of getting other people sick.
lack of productivity. Better things for your body than to sit at a desk all day. :p

The USA Today newspaper had a great article in it a few weeks back relating to taking sick time. It appears that companies are losing so much money due to sick time that gets taken, they are going to start tracking sick leave with different processes. Some might be able to put the fact that you took "x" days of sick time in your yearly review.

Unfortunately, these companies fail to realize the fact that due to them putting more pressure on you (12-hour days, etc.) - you're bound to get sick more frequently. However, if too much work breaks your resistance down and then you have to take some sick time, the'll punish you for it? This has gone way too far. :(

I say if you work in any job where you are going to be interacting with people you got to call in sick regardless of company 'policy'. Explain to the managment that you are highly contagious (i.e., you have a fever and all your orifices are oozing something). If they really want you around after that then go in and breath all over the management as much as possible.

Yeah I think this is an excellent topic to bring up with my Psychology of Work teacher on Tuesday if I'm better by then.

Yeah I don't get it, I was called in last week to work for someone who was sick and then I call in and they tell me that it was kinda late when I called. ERRRRRR!

It's ok though, I'm going to get like 5 hours overtime this week so that'll make up for the sick time, I guess.

I actually work retail and I don't work in any office. It's just me, my kiosk and the customers.

my employer would rather a sick person stay home than for the person to come to work and get everyone else sick. i swear to god, most people at my work come in sick on purpose and spread it all around. this is the first job where i've been sick almost all the time. :disgust:

That's the state of affairs in the capitalistic, materialistic, workaholic society we live in.

I completely feel your pain! I went in to work today with laryngitis (sp?) to work on a project that's due really soon. I figured I'd do fine, but it turns out I made it a TON worse and now I have to take tomorrow off anyway :( I completely agree with LaLaLand, I hate having to use my paid time off as a sick day.

Hope you feel better!
