Sign on the Wendy's drive thru said something to the effect:

"Due to the Hurricanes, tomatoes are in short supply. Tomatoes will only be added to your sandwich upon request"

Could be P&N fodder, but I really don't have any opinion on it, so off to OT it goes..

that's happened at a lot of places - and with other vegetables/fruits as well - not just because of hurricanes in florida but also issues in CA and Mexico

I had no idea the lack of tomatos could stir up so much emotion that it could to go in to P&N

I was going to make salse for a party last week, and the roma tomatoes were 3.99 a pound. Usually, they're 1.99, sometimes on sale for .99. Needless to say, no salsa was made.

Never been to P&N, huh? 😉

You see a lot of tomato threads in P&N? Or involving any other kind of produce for that matter?

i can imagine that tomatos get quite expensive in cold weather. by putting that sign up maybe they can actually save some money

one of these days you'd see a sign that reads

"Due to the Mad Cow Disease, beef patties are in short supply. Beef patties will only be added to your sandwich upon request"

I heard about that and I don't blame them. Heck, you almost have to refinance your house to buy a tomato.

prices have gone through the roof... our owner (pizza shop) only wants us to put 1 slice of tomato on a half sub... I decided fvck it and just left it off altogether, otherwise it looked ridiculous - 8 inches of sub with a little 1 1/2 inch circle of paper thin tomato on it. A case of tomatos used to cost 10 or 12 dollars... now it's between 60 and 70.

No sh1t, tomatoes are expensive now and the ones I've been getting are pretty crappy (all water and seeds). 🙁
Sucks, I love tomatoes.

As a person who HATES tomatoes, and requests that they are left off of everything I order, and wants to KILL them when they put them on anyway, this makes me very happy.

I'll still ask for "no tomatoes" just to be sure 😀

do you hate ketchup too?

I've felt the effects of the shortage for probably around a month now. Our dining commons posted up signs that said due to the issues in Mexico and the US there is a tomato shortage so basically we don't get fresh tomatoes anymore 🙁 Sucks to have a burger or sandwich with meat, cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, olives, or anything else, but NO tomatoes.
