Si-120 Vs Scythe Ninja

So I am making my case quiet as possible, so far Am getting a P180, S12 600w, and I need to choose a HSF. I have narrowed it down to these two. I was thinking about the scythe and running it with a 120x38 panaflo controlled by a costom made controller that can take it down to like 4.6v. Or, the SI-120 with the same fan. Keep in mind I am OCing to possibly 2.8 so it needs to be cool. Which of these two would you sugest? Thank you for your time.

Is it the Sandy in your sig your OCing? I have a similar set up with an opty DC running at 2700 and the SI-120. I am using one of the antec TriCool fans as the HSF and replaced its spot on the rear exhaust with a TT 120mm fan, Not sure what its stats are but it pushes pretty good CFMs. The only thing on the rig I hear is the stinking Vid Card and the dam DFI chipset fan. But I'm not a quiet PC type nut.

The Ninja scares me. Its pretty monsterous, but I would guess it would cool better than the Si-120 if it included fans rather than the No fan option... I don't know if this helps...

good luck BTW I have the Si-120 blowing and I am thinking of making the top blow hole suck instead of blow and see how that works...

What you are talking here is a difference at best of 1c - 3c in temps....
The Si120 and the Ninja temp wise it would be a toss up...yet even with the XP 120 you would be only seeing a difference of 1c - 3c with the Ninja winning!!

You only need a fan that displaces at best 35--50 cfm.
Anything over that does not lower temps.
Also I would stay away from the Antec triCool fans.....compared to the Cooler master 120 mm fans the Antecs are noisy!!

Good Luck!!

OP, go with the SI-120 if you are going to OC, as it will direct the exhaust air at the board

componets giving them cooling air. The Ninja won't. For non-OCing quiet, the Ninja is the ticket.

I'm not going to look for the numbers, but I have two Panaflo 120x38 here. 114cfm and 83cfm.

Neither is happy with being undervolted. But the 83cfm fan does not protest as much as the 114cfm fan.

so do you guys recommend the fan to blow air on the SI120..I thought TR generally recommends sucking air off the HSF

They generally recommend blowing. However, it's only a degree or two difference between the two configurations anyway.

Please tell me why a 120x38 will not fit with the same ease as a 120x25 on the SI-120.

Weight? :D The clips fit into the lower ears. Both 25 and 38 can be had at 60+cfm and under
volted in the Winter, then come 90+F Summer days turned up.

Not everyone buys into the religious ferver of spcr, undervolting CPUs and running passive.;)

It seems that this discussion keeps coming up here :) but either HSF will be fine like JEDIYoda says since the difference in performance is minimal. Just pick the one that you like better.

But if you plan on OCing, like Galvanized says the SI-120 will blow air to the board but the Ninja wont. Something to keep in mind.

The Ninja performs slightly better than the XP-120 (which is the same as the SI-120).

No you are dead wrong the SI-120 is NOT the same as the XP120!!

You will get lower temps with the SI 120. In fact the thermal resistance of the SI 120 vs the Ninja is the same!

The SI120 will give you 1c-3c better temps than the XP 120!!

You're wrong.

You need to at least read thru the info on Thermalright's site, or a review or two. The SI-120 is designed to work with either a suck or blow config.

Well, that's funny considering TR lists a panaflo L1A as their "recommended" fan for the SI-120.

I have the SI with a panaflo M1A on it, blowing into it. The karajan audio module blocks the rear case fan so I took that out and put it in the front for intake. Basically the cool air from the front goes onto the bottom of the SI and the motherboard and rises up through top exhaust which I have set on high, so for me this setup works quite nicely. I've actually taken my comp with HSF installed to my friend's house and back without even thinking about it. The SI itself isn't heavy enough to do anything but maybe the monster panaflo would. I would be scared to move my comp with the Ninja on, let alone stand it upright ;)

When he says they make no recommendation I believe he means as to the orientation of the fan(pushing vs. pulling), not a recommendation of which fan to use...
