I just got a new SI-120 cooler to mount on my MSI Neo2 Platinum. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit! Due to the Neo2's layout, I have to mount it with the heatpipes facing either up or down. Facing up, the fins strike my video card (no good). Facing down, the heatpipes would just barely clear my video card (by less than 1/4"), except for the VF-700 bracket. I have a Zalman VF-700 on my video card, and it uses a diagonal brace across the back for stability, which protrudes about 1/4" above the card.
I'd like some options, other than just returning the cooler. How dangerous would it be to re-mount the VF-700 without the rear brace? Has anyone tried this? Is there any way I could modify it and keep it in place? What about the SI-120 - are the any other mounting possibilities I've overlooked? Suggestions are much appreciated.
