Hey everybody,
I'm looking at buying a Shuttle case, but I want to bring over my Radeon 9800 PRO when I do so. It looks like some of the cases only allow half-sized cards-are there any I can buy(cheap ones) that use an AMD chipset and can fit a full-sized AGP card like the radeon?

Thanks,
Drew

The shuttles are all barebone (Case, PSU, MoBo, HSF)

AFAIK, they will all handle the full size ATi graphic cards. The cheapest one I've seen (of the current models) is teh SK43G at $225 - 30MIR

hope that helps

The 9800 will fit in any Shuttle except the SV24/25, SS40, SS50, SB52 & SB62, as these don't have an AGP slot.
There are issues with the 9800 & 9700Pro in the SB61, I beleive.
Generally the AMD based SK41 is the cheapest out there - it's very stable & one of the most relaible Shuttle XPC's out there..

Hope this helps

Ultim8pc is right about the models that it won't work in. I've only heard about the SB61G2 having problems with the 9700 and 9500 series cards conflicting with the sound, not the 9600 or 9800 series, though.

Here's a nice deal on one... ;)

It'll work fine in there...

There is a problem in the SB65G2 with the AIW 9800Pro, where recorded TV sound is is very "hard" and "echo-y"
It can be somewhat addressed by adding a sound card and running an external line from one card to the other, but I think it's BS.

I ALREADY HAVE 5.1 sound on that mobo, and I not only have to disable that sound, but I have to buy a sound card and run an EXTERNAL cable from the video card to the sound card. Which of course wastes an output on the video card.

And this is on the major selling point for this card!

You don't buy this card unless you WANT to use your machine as a PVR, and it doesn't work right? On a mobo with intel chips!???

I'm going to stick to Matrox in the future. They never give me any trouble.

There is a problem with a few AIW's and certain revisions of the 9700pro's. On boot, these cards try to get more voltage than the 5v rail is supposed to give and trips the power supplies' Over Volt Protection. Some people used a delay circuit and this seems to remedy the issue. You could also send PSU to shuttle to have them disable OVP on the PSU. The new 250w is supposed to be able to handle the load, though, and is cooler and quieter to boot. Can't wait to get my hands on them once its available in Canada.
