Ok... I purchased the Shuttle Sn41G2 case/mobo that comes with it plopped in a 2100 athlon thoro 2 256 sticks of ddr 2100 a dvd rom and a 40 gig wd ata 100 harddrive....

It stops at 'detecting ide devices' WHENEVER the harddrive is connected in any shape way or form.... I have tried each and every master/slave combos different cables ide1/2 etc no cdrom with cdrom, flashed bios, a second 120 gig new WD harddrive... you name it....

I guess im just looking to see if there is a known compatability issue that exists or maybe im just doin sumtin downright silly....

I can load a bootable cdrom on dvd just fine long as there is no hd installed. It does not evne let me go into the bios when this happens as well it just sorta freezes at detecting ide....

sorry for all grammar etc its 4am im tired and sad =(

thanks in advance

There is a known problem with some WD HDDs and NF2 and the fix is to cut the first 2 wires (red stripped=reset and one next to it=ground) on the IDE cable or notify WD and they'll send you a moddified cable free of charge.

WD tech support-We did identify a timing anomaly with a certain BIOS, where the drive is not recognized by the system on power-up. During the drive's power-up initialization, before busy is cleared, there is a very small timing window during which a reset may cause the drive to become inaccessible. This affects only an isolated group of WD hard drives. Western Digital has since optimized its hard drives' power-up initialization sequence to ensure compatibility. This optimization does not cause any functional changes with the power-up initialization

I can try that but even on a brand new WD harddrive it didnt work. Might try and get a hold of another brand just to test though.

Make sure with the WD it's alone on the cable and in the unjumpered cable select position it ships with. Have you tried swapping cables in case your's is just faulty? BTW, I have the SN45G with WD 120gb SE and it works perfect in cable select alone on the primary.

Yes I have tried all combos on a variety of cables. Sigh so weird might just trade out my shuttle....

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

No problemo :) These little cubes are great, it would have been a shame if you let the HDD detection stop you!
