Shuttle sn25p ??

this is a weird one..

shuttle sn25p

3000+ winnie core
2x1gig Kingston DDR 400

started w/ a 2005 bios, updated to newest, then to second newest...

w/ the 3000+ installed, it will boot up and run fine w/ the 2g of RAM... If I try to upgrade to either a 3700+ SanDiego or an X2 3800 Manchester it won't boot unless I put only one stick of 512mb ram... it will work in either slot, but not w/ 2x or w/ 1x 1gig stick...

any experience w/ this problem???

thanks, finkle

hey,
thanks for the bump... I've been reading over there... Lot's of shuttle info...

seems I have a problem w/ my V 1.2 mobo, but still don't explain the working w/ 512mb of ram and not w/ more???

thanks again, finkle

Hey IlllI,
thanks for the bumps and replies...

i would agree I have a memory problem, except for the fact that the 2x1g runs fine w/ a 3000+ winnie or Venice core... but will only run w/ 1 x 512mb w/ the x2 3800 and the 3700+ sandiego core... the ram can be in either slot too, so no dead or problem dimm slot...

crazy...

i'll have to register over at the Sudian(s) forum and post this problem...

** UPDATE **

Might have it working.. I upped the RAM voltage to 2.7 from Auto in the bios and it boots w/ 2x512mb w/ the x2 3800 ... seems to be working fine... 🙂

possibly the x2 or 3700+ CPU uses more power and stole it from the RAM???

Possibly. I had an SN25P for a while & it was touchy with voltages. The stock PSU isn't particularly beefy, I even had issues with connecting multiple USB powered devices (eg. one device would work, two wouldn't, unless they were both minimal draw devices like flash drives). I had a similar issue with ram; I was never able to get 2.7v to two sticks.

thanks for the reply..

It is a touchy little thing... an IDE DVD burner would not work for whatever reason.. wouldn't even recognize it... put a Sata optical in it and it works fine...

kinda fun trouble shooting... glad It's not my everday/needed rig though...

runs stable now though...

take care, finkle
