I heard that Shuttle will bbe releasing a Core 2 duo system sometime soon, based around the same design as their new AM2 case.

My google search led me to a link describing that the new config will offer Core 2 duo, a spare PCI slot, and two PCI 16 slots for a crossfire system.

My question is this,

1-do you think that Core 2 duo will cool down the system over the AMD?

2-for a first time DIY would you buy a barebone system such as this with a single ATI card and a core 2 duo?

Check the forums at sudhian.com, some Shuttle designs ship with rough edges and don't always get fixed as well or as completely as people would like.

A Core 2 will definitely be cooler than an AM2 for the same speed.

If you don't mind a bit larger case, the Microfly case uses standard microATX motherboards. There is a review at Sudhian in the articles area, and you can buy it at TigerDirect.com.

The shuttle might be close to the same cost though compared to buying a $100 case, $100+ motherboard, and $100 PSU.

I have a microfly case and it works out very well..however....I have seen no microatx mobos for core 2 duo processors yet.

This one might. XPC SD31P. The intel 945g is capable of supporting core 2 duo. This is the product link at shuttle. I suggest perhaps a email to shuttle support they might give you some info.

YEs they is SHOULD be cooler
And Yes they do have one the SD31P

I loved Shuttles so much I now own too, but my opinion of them has changed.
I reccomend you look elsewhere, as shuttle's support and warrantee is the worst I have ever expereinced.
As an example:
I now have a Sb81P just over 1.5 years old. The PSU has stopped working and the comapny that sold me the shuttle said to speak to shuttle, and shuttle tell me to speak to the comapny. I have got both parties to speak to each other and the conclusion is I have to buy a new one!
This process took 6 weeks and probably over 10 phone calls and 50 emails. Just to be told I have to buy one now!

The SD31P DOES NOT support Conroe since the VRMs won't work with the chip. Shuttle is putting the final touches on the SD37P2, which should be available in a month or two. Do a search on this model number to find additional information. It will be CrossFire capable but WON'T have a regular PCI slot. One of the PCIe slots can either be used for a CrossFire video card OR a regular PCIe 1x card.
