AN35N Ultra v1.1
Barton 2500+ Retail
Buffalo RAM PC3200 (1x512MB)
Samsung Combo Drive
PowerColor Radeon 9600Pro
USR modem (PCI)
Antec SLK3700BQE Case with SmartPower 350W.

Put computer together, no mishaps or funny stuff. Turn on...nothing! Fans all turning, HDD spins up, CD Spins up, does NOT seek floppy. No beeps. No picture on video.

ReSeat all cards and memory. No help.

Clear CMOS. No help. But I did get beep.

Take out 9600Pro and use a PCI video Card. System booted...set FSB to 166 and rebooted fine...Tells me i have AMD 2500+ (all good)...begins to install WinXP. Partway through install...system reboots. I figure it's normal...computer posts, but sez CPU is Athlon 1100+...go back into CMOS to set FSB...it IS set at 166.

Reboot again. Nothing. SOMEtimes it beeps, usually after I clear CMOS. But no video, just nothing.

I have moved my RAM to other DDR slot to no avail. Pulled modem and disconnected Combo Drive, no help.

Tomorrow I will start over and reinstall everything. I will try each component in my own PC to see if they work. Any other ideas? I'm thinkin mobo. Hopefully just shorting for some reason and a reseat will help. But I doubt it.

Well, since I get no video signal, I can't flash anything! The Radeon and the memory check out in my other system (I am typing this using both of them now). I reseated the mobo completely.

Would it help to reseat the CPU? I did not switch out the HDD or floppy...would either of these do this?

Is the mobo bad?

to start with i would pull and unhook everything but the video, cpu, ram. then clear the cmos. then double check any jumper settings on the board. then try and see if it will post with just the bare minimum installed

that will at least help you narrow it down to the mobo, video, cpu, ram or powersupply

Just ordered this board with a barton 2500 (newegg) still not here.
as the other members stated remove everything except cpu/memory/ video card

could be a bad ram stick

this board apparently has a automatic reset after a failed boot or overclock.
to reset the cmos without the jumpers "unplug for 30 sec, press insert key as you power on then press delete to get into the bios.
Manual states clearing the cmos via jumpers soemtimes does not reset the cmos.

also from another site

" Here's where it gets interesting. We tried the AN35N with 2 pre-tested sticks of Corsair's excellent XMS3500 RAM. Not only have these sticks run as a pair at DDR-400 with 2-6-2-2 timings, they have done so with default volts. This has been tested on a number of cross-platform motherboards from various manufacturers. Imagine our surprise, then, when the board failed to load a fresh copy of Windows XP Professional with these timings (we always install the OS with relatively relaxed timings). Raising the voltage to the maximum 2.7v didn't cure our stability problems. Using another pre-tested pair of Mushkin EMS PC3500 modules didn't help either. Using any number of high-performance PC3200+ modules resulted in almost instant crashing when loading the OS. However, relaxing the memory timings to 2-3-3-7 cured all ailments. It appears as if the board is applying some odd latencies when set to 2-2-2-6 in BIOS. To confuse matters a little more, running at 166FSB caused no problems whatsoever, even with the tightest latencies. The sample board also had a problem restarting from 200FSB upwards. It was even money whether it would reboot correctly or not. In its defence, it did power-up perfectly each and every time.'

SO TRY RELAXING THE MEM TIMING TO 2-3-3-7

link to updated drivers, bios and manual

good luck

Well, I reseated the CPU, the video, the memory (as I said above, the memory and the video work great in my other system), put the mobo back into the case, plugged it all in and now the power doesnt come on...I officially give up.

I figure the mobo is just plain going bad, or there is a short somewhere. Both PSU connectors are connected to the mobo and the PSU switch is in the ON position on the PSU. I get nothing, no light, no fan, nothing. grrr...gonna order a new mobo and return this to newegg.

you may have to reset the cmos

from the manual

If you changed your cpu or overclocked your sysytem, the system may fail to boot up EVEN WITH CLEAR CMOS JUMPER PHYSICALLY RESETTED.
The reason is NVIDIA"s new nForce2 Chipset introduces a way to reset or clear CMOS jumper without removing a chassis.

so try unpluggin for 30sec then power up while pressing the "insert" key then press del as the computer POSTS

good luck hope I dont have as much trouble as you are having

I did try that route yesterday...sorry I havent mentioned it. Problem now is, I got NO power at all. Now I will have to check the PSU to see if it is OK...it powered the motherboard fine until just a few minutes ago. Jeez this gets to be so much work!!! Off to newegg!

I have the same MB and not only does it work without a glitch, but I replaced an MSI MB with this one, no OS reinstall and it works perfectly. That said, sounds like yours was DOA. I would RMA it for thje same product. As far as BIOS is concerned, I got mine a few months ago, installed it, ran it for a week or two before I updated the BIOS, no problems. as you can see, we have very similar setups.
