Shuttle AB60R .....Anybody running a Prescott?

I purchased an AB60R and would like to run a newer 478 cpu. I know it will run northwoods, but I would like to run a prescott. Is it possible?
It says on the Shuttle website that it is not supported.
What I would like to know is why. Will it work and just not ID the cpu and or will it over volt the cpu or something else? Can anything be done to use the newer cpu's?

Thanks

I have looked at the bios updates and they make no reference as to support in a new bios. I think the last update was 1 1/2 years ago.

I also purchased this shuttle motherboard and had the same question. What processor would you put in it if not prescott. Have you found a good price?

antmanbee, I won't get into technical details (because I don't know them), but generally Prescott support isn't possible on a socket 478 board due to differences in the VRM (voltage regulator module). Prescott requires an updated VRM, and that just isn't practical on a motherboard.

FWIW I have a board that claimed to be Prescott compatible (EPoX 4PDA2+), but that compatibility was based on pre-release information from Intel. Once the VRM for Prescott was finalized, the VRM on my board (and many Springdale chipset boards) was not up to spec for Prescott.

People have been able to get a Prescott to work on some of these boards, but the board manufacturer is not going to put his stamp of approval on it.

Thanks for the reply Jeff H.
cajerry,
I got myself a 2.26 Retail Northwood from monarch for $113 and I have it o/c to 3.4G.
Just upped the fsb and the voltages are default.
The system is very fast with this chip at this speed.
I did not even test it to see if it would go higher.
