I don't need XP telling me that my wireless connection signal is strong or that I have unused icons on my Desktop. How do I turn that off?
TIA

Not the programs themselves, just the popup tool tips.
But thanks.

you should be able to find setting for that in start>run>gpedit.msc , be careful what you modify in here. It is not as sensitive as regedit, but still packs a wallop if you misset anything

un-used icons can be turned off by right clicking desktop>properties>desktop tab>customize desktop> clear run desktop cleanup wizard chkbox

Here's what worked for me:
In TweakUI, click on "Taskbar and Start menu" in the left pane. In the right pane, uncheck "Enable balloon tips."
As a bonus, this will also get rid of the balloon tips that come up when you point to the shut down or restart icons.

Agreed, Tweakui will do this efficiently. It is a terrific download that I wouldn't be without.
