Ive just rebuilt my Cel 366 system for my and installed Win 2000 on it. Now everything runs great, but the thing that bugs me is when it shutdown. What happens is that it wont shutdown automaticaly, instead it wants it done manualy. Like press and hold the front button or flick the switch in the back of the powersupply. Now im thinking that something on my system is either not installed right or not fully compatible with the way Win 2000 does its powermanagement.

The system specs are:

Celeron 366(not oc'ed currently but was at 550 before switcj of hands)
128 ram
Abit BH6 MB(forget wich rev beleive it was one of the first ones if that might matter)
Fujitsu 3.3gig HDD
Memorex 24xMax CD-ROM
CL TNT2Ultra

Thats all that i can think off my head right now. Thanks in advance.

There is a setting in windows 2k that you need to setup in order for it to auto power down. Go into the control panels and then go into the power management icon. There should be a tab that says APM on it. GO into there, and you should see the option to use advanced power management or not. If you do, then you can get all sorts of different power managing tools (though most are not useful), including allowing your computer to shut itself off... Assuming of course if you have an atx case and motherboard that supports this otion. Usually windows 2k can detect wether or not your motherboard can handle this, but sometimes it doesn't check it off... Hope this helps.

Do you have McAfee virus scan on the machine?? I recently did a DAT update and it gave the same problem. Disable it and see if that helps. Atleast you will know if it's the Windows or something else. R
