I am having trouble shutting down my system. When I try to shut it down it appears to either suspend (i hear the case fans) or reboots. I am using Windows ME with all the current updates.

1.4 266 athalon ,
visiontek GeForse 3,
256 ddr micron 2.5 cas ram,
Soundblaster live,
Creative labs 52x cdrom,
Linksys ethernet card,
431 watt enermax power supply.
Do you think the Bios setting might have something to do with this? What power settings should be on for Win ME?

Make sure in your BIOS, you have your power setting set correctly for soft-off. Also go into your power settings in windows(right click an empty part of the desktop, choose properties, then choose screensavers, at the bottom of the screensavers window, choose "settings," choose 15mins for turning off your monitor, choose "never" to turning off hard disks, and choose "never" to system standby. This should do the trick.

Hope this helps ya!

Thanks for the info. I think it was IRQ conflicts with the Soundblaster that was doing it. After moving both (soundblaster and Linksys ethernet card) around a few times I found some slots they both seem to like. It finally shut down. Damm conflicts are driving me crazy.
