Hello!
I've been a long time reader of the Anandtech and the forums, and I greatly appreciate everything that you all contribute to the community.
I recently upgraded my system/programs hard drive to a Western Digital 640GB WD6400AAKS, and I have Windows XP SP3. My computer is extremely stable with no problems during boot, or daily usage but whenever I shut down my computer, my system will hang. Now I have found that the comp will NOT hang when I do a normal restart; but during shutdown, my hard-drives *I have another WD 160GB as a storage drive* will actually shut down first before the rest of my system *I can hear and feel the vibrations stopping* because the psu fan, cpu fan, and rear exhaust fan are still running. Once my comp gets into this "hung" state, I just hold the shut down button for a bit and the comp will shut down. When I turn on my comp again, the system boots up normally and runs fine.
I'm thinkin that the problem is possibly the new feature that WD parks the drive head off the platter to reduce long-term damage, but thats just a wild guess so, hopefully someone would be able to help to solve this very annoying problem for me because I am stumped! Oh, my MB is an Asus P5K-E with Bios 1013.
