Shutdown over?

Unless something really unexpected happens today the government will shutdown. Republicans don't even have 50 votes from their own caucus on the CR.

Trump could have taken the Durbin/Graham deal and really been no worse for it but is too week minded not to get diverted by the crazy hardliners. Somewhat amazing to precipitate a crisis and then manage to prevent it from being resolved at every turn through laziness, incompetence, and ignorance.

And through the Fox News Spin machine you get your easily duped voting base to believe it was somebody else's fault. What a time to be alive!

Lol, what else is new. That place operates in an alternate dimension.

Also apparently the WH has said that Trump will not go to Florida until the government is funded. As late as yesterday he was going to headline a 100K a ticket party to celebrate the anniversary of his inauguration at Mar-a-Lago. He's not gonna be pleased lol.

Bolded: how do we address outsourcing?

Follow up, how do we address insourcing?
Outsourcing has to be discouraged by removing the incentives that make it so lucrative and with Trump in charge that will never happen. As long as rich people can skirt employment laws they will continue to hire people at lower wages. This has been going on in almost every employment sector and there are multitudes of court cases where companies have been caught and punished yet the practice continues.

Republicans want laissez-faire which is business without restrictions by the government so they can run amok unhindered. It was this philosophy that brought about the industrial revolution leading to the worker protections of 1935 in the NLRA. If there's no enforcement of our laws or selective enforcement then will we ever be able to achieve normalcy?

Yeah, I generally agree. As long as there is opportunity for off the books pay for immigrants, there will be illegal immigration.

A wall, walls, border security increases (most recently at the cost of background checks) are all just band aids to a problem that is used to sway votes.

Meaningful change in policy will not be without cost either, as U.S. citizens will be paying more for services and products

The House is scheduled to adjourn today at 11 so even if some compromise is worked out in the Senate the House isn't there to do anything with it. Also Trump is now planning to go to FL on Saturday for his party. Senate is short of even a simple majority with several GOP senators publicly opposed to the CR. All over an crisis that Trump himself created and that the American people, overwhelmingly, want to see resolved in favor of the people affected.

This is some high quality governing.

It needs to shut down. The republicans are not acting in good faith. They are traitors, bent on destroying the nation. We should shut the government down until they impeach Trump. They will never, ever give the democrats DACA again. They call it "amnesty". How can you negotiate with such people? You can't, so shut it all down and make them go home.

It is time for the Donald Trump Inaugural Anniversary Shut Down of 2018. We can shut the whole stupid thing down until Trump is gone. If that means the government is shut down for 3 years so be it.

House now seems to be waffling on if they're leaving or not now. Maybe waiting to see what the Senate does.

I think the basic problem with our immigration law is people keep trying to pass one sweeping law that will fix all the problems magically as opposed to passing small laws to fix specific problems in piecemeal fashion.

The problem with immigration law is that we have no consistent immigration policy. All our immigration laws are made piecemeal with no unifying vision on how it is to work. So, Democrats get in office and make laws with one vision, , then the Republicans get power and make laws in their almost exactly opposite vision. So we end up with a confusing and often contradictory set of laws.

It is going to be hilarious if the Democrats manage to get the 10 votes needed to keep the government open but the Republicans can't provide their 50. Hard to blame the Democrats then.

So let me get this strait.

The Dems want to shut down the United States government over people that are residing in the country illegally - people that aren't Americans.

Why in the world would you harm your own countries' citizens over this? That's some fucked up shit.

Dump Truck began this particular house fire by starting the clock on DACA deportations and, through his own weak minded ineptness, scuttled every chance at a bipartisan compromise which is something Americans at large are broadly in favor of.

Dont pit this on the dems. Republicans and Trump is shutting the US government down, noone else.
If the dems cave on this one they shall forever hereon be known as chickenocrats. Take a motherfucking stand.

They were not residing in the country illegally until Trump decided to cancel their visas late last year. They are currently in a limbo state since the administration is forgoing declaring them illegal until March in order to give Congress time to decide what to do about them. They will only be residing in the country illegally if this bill is not passed. These are people that have been in this country almost all their life. This is 700,000 people that came to this country as young children and for most of them this is the only country they have known.

Stand for what? Fucking over American citizens just to further proliferate partisanship?

House has decided to stick around. I presume the McConnell will call up the CR for a vote which will fail then maybe fall back to a several day CR to keep things running which the House will have to pass.

Nice try. The Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. This fuckup is 100% Republican. Elections have consequences. In this case, the winning party is trying to govern based on a failed ideology.

I don't see how that answers my question, but whatever.

I'm going to ask what my dad thinks, he emigrated to this country legally and is an American citizen. Now some dumb congressmen won't keep the government that serves him running, over an issue that doesn't concern American citizens.

Again, Dems are fucked up.

Again, the Dems can demand rainbows and unicorns and have zero ability to affect the continuing resolution. This is fundamentally a rot in the Republican Party that renders them incapable of governing.

Why doesnt Repubs just unfuck it? They can, why dont they?

You seem to miss two very important points. The DACA issue has 80+% of voters support a fix, they do not want deportation for this category.
Republicans control everything at the moment, they have the Presidency and majority in both houses. I’ll admit it’s not filibuster proof but Republicans literally need a handful of Independent or Democratic members to pass this.

Let this sink in: Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have whipped more votes for Graham/Durbin (56) then they have for the CR (<50). But the GOP won't bring it to a vote because the President threw a tantrum. Trump didn't drain the swamp, he shat in it and now he wants America to drink up.

Herein lies the truth. Americans want humane immigration, but they also want cheap sh!t. You can't have both.

Dump Truck began this particular house fire by starting the clock on DACA deportations and, through his own weak minded ineptness, scuttled every chance at a bipartisan compromise which is something Americans at large are broadly in favor of.
Who implemented the short sighted DACA to begin with? Trump ran on a nationalist and populist platform, with inmigration squarely in his sights. DACA was a bandaid. It always hurts to rip off a bandaid. Democrat Senators have to dig in on DACA because all of their presidential hopefuls are currently out sprinting one another to claim the far left.
