Well, $75 + non-free shipping, which comes out to about $80 again.

Also, tax for New Yorkers (that's where J&R is).

I don't see J&R through Amazon - the best vendor right now through Amazon is Buy Direct at $130. J&R off their own website is showing $250 for me. The original offer (Musician's Friend) also shows $250, but still claims that the $170 instant rebate is live - however it doesn't show in the price on either the product page or the cart, so I'm not sure whether the deal really is still live or not...

Yup, it's dead again. Act fast or miss out...

There's a seller at Amazon for $100 though. And it might be worth it to phone J&R to see if they can give you the better price over the phone.

I got the SLC3s from Musicians Friend last week, but they won't stay around my ear no matter what I try (very frustrating!). My E2Cs worked perfectly out of the box, but so far, I can't use my SLC3s and am still stuck with my V-Modas. 🙁

Is there something I can do to make the cord more plyable so the earpiece doesn't get pulled out from around my ear? I've tried all the ear inserts with no success.

I received a shipping confirmation from Musicians Friend eight days ago, with an invalid tracking number. So far, nothing. Also, my CC didn't get charged... what's going on here??

your CC should have been charged the day you ordered

nope, didn't happen. They sent me several emails telling me the shipment will be delayed and if I wanted to cancel because of that etc. etc.

I hope this isn't their way of cancelling orders.

I also ordered some scl4's from musicians on the 11th. Finally got shipped earlier this week. The email had a tracking number, but it wasn't valid at fedex or usps... not sure what was in the email though, since checking the order on the website doesn't list a tracking number at all. I'm guessing its just coming usps w/o any delivery confirmation.

My cc was charged fine though, so not sure what's up with that.

I got both of my scl4s. They kept doing that to me and I kept complaining. I also got $10 off the order and a $30 credit with them. That makes the deal even more insane.

= give them a call (or maybe two or three...) 🙂

will do!

Got my scl4s today from guitar center. I do miss the bass from my cx300s I've been used to but it varies wildly between different CDs.

in for a pair of scl3's, sadly the scl4's are on backorder and don't seem to offer the $79.99 deal anymore.

People obsess way to much over bass anyway. Of course for a classical audiophile I guess it matters a lot less unless you're listening to some pretty awesome organ music.

Every person's hearing and taste is different. There's a reason there's a wide range of opinion for higher end headphones. Some people love the clarity, some people hate the lack of bass, etc

Got mine yesterday from musiciansfriend as well. Good stuff, although if you really want alot of bass, they might not be for you (amazing at blocking out outside noise though).

This is very true, but I will say this. I have a bunch of different headphones....the slc4, koss portapro, grado sr80s.... The slc4s sound really good with say and ipod but do lack some bass with some tracks. I plugged them into a Sony mp3 player and the sound difference was drastic. The bass was there. The sound quality on the Sony is way better on the Sony. I imagine something like the D2 by cowon would be even better.

^agreed exactly. I got mine from Guitar Center, previous buds were Shure E2C's. For those who haven't used the shure products - Make sure you get a good fit with the sleeves or you'll definitely find quality to be very lacking.

Bass is loud when the track is bass heavy. But most of your normal tracks won't really be making your ears shake or anything.

Why would they? They don't create bass, they reproduce what is there. Give them a good source and that is what you will hear.
