Well they are normally around $500 so this is a good deal. Plus I have heard wonderful things about these. With the canal phones dual drivers is something you really want....

Noone doubts they sound wonderful, but at $500 bucks they better come with live musicians.

Clearly, none of you have been hanging around head-fi, where HD-580s are budget and that $200 aftermarket cable is a necessity (I'm exaggerating somewhat...but only somewhat).

Seriously though, the E5c are the kind of canalphone you'd pair with one of these for $395 or at the least a Porta Corda for $150. Considering that, saving $150 to ultimately pay $350 really isn't bad. Remember- an AMD FX55 would still be really expensive with a big sale...but it would be a hot deal for that product, nonetheless. Same applies here.

Have you heard the Ec series? Even the lowly 60 dollar ec2? The apple ones dont isolate noise either and have more sound leak then the shures to. (important when studying in a public lounge etc)

Still sucks compared to Etymotic ER 4Ps... . 200 bucks all day long on Ebay I believe (new)

For that much money, they better be custom molded to your ear canals as well.

About a 99.5% profit Margin on these. Maybe $2 in parts... MAYBE. Sorry, I don't care how good they sound. A $50 pair of cuffs will kick the living crap out of them. And I've yet to meet a situation where in-the-ear's were necessary.

these are costly not so much for the material involved, but more for the research that was done to make them.

That's about how most people feel when they feel the price tag. Different priorities.

I like the design since it helps to block out a lot of noises during the 2hours of my daily commute. I have the next lower model as I can't justify the $300+ price tag.

You can't only quote that part, I went on to say that In-the-ears sound like garbage compaired to cuffs. So you can pay $400 for slightly less awful plugs or pay much less money for cuffs that will absolutely blow the plugs away in every aspect of sound quality.

What are 'cuffs'? It's a term I've never heard of before.

Can there cuffs be used on the train? Can they can block out the noise of hoards of college and high school students?

I'm sure that you can go out and make your own set of speakers that will blow a lot of audio equipment away. That price will even be cheaper. But that's comparing apples to oranges.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's talking about the "earmuff" style of headphones.

OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, These are in-ear Dual drive monitors, if you don't know what that means, they're not for you.
You don't have to spend 350$ to get decent sound out of your ipod you can buy the much cheaper E3c for 120$ from ecost.

Which $50 headphones are you thinking of? I've heard the Grado SR60 is good, but it's $70+

i got the sr80's, nice 'phones

these headphones are all really a lot different

I'm actually pretty content with the stock mx400's (i think) that came with my iriver h320. They are basic sennheiser ear buds, not isolating or anything, and they come out of my ear pretty easily, but they were free, and they let me enjoy my music pretty well as long as they are positioned right.

Before you spend this much money on headphones, I'd suggest you think a lot about how you'll be using them the most and how important sound quality will be for you when you are using them. The SR60/80/120's from grado are all nice, but are very cumbersome to take anywhere with you, I guess thats what makes these sound isolating earbuds so attractive to people on the go who want high-quality audio. OK, my thoughts have reached the point of ranting, peace out.

SR-71....nice... also try headroom supreme...onsale too for $359!! but I would imaging you can easily drive a cannal phone with bithead which is alot less at $270...
