Has anyone tried them?

I can't speak for the E3C or E4C models, but I love my E2Cs.

e2c<e3c<e4c

personally wouldn't consider anything more than the e4c because of price, but thats the gist of how they stack up, in case you couldn't figure it out on your own

I have the e2c's. Awesome for what they are, which is sound isolating headphones at an entry level price. I wouldn't say they are audiophile grade, but for the price, the sound is excellent. The word that comes to mind the most is "clarity." They aren't the last word in detail however. They are a little light on bass though, if you listen to lots of bass heavy music they probably aren't going to meet your demand for rumbling deep bass. Its there, but it can be a little weak sometimes.

Sorry I know this thread is about the e3c's.

I had the e2c's and now have the e3c's. I don't see enough difference between the two to make it worht while. I'm thinking about the e4's though.

Use Amex if you're unsure. Use the support phone #. The sales # may be wrong.

I just bought them at a better store that I have experience with. www.earphonesolutions.com I bought my e2c's there and they are great to deal with. I just picked up the e3G (the black version of the e3c for $129.99 shipped with some free stuff thrown in.

Does anyone but me feel these are uncomfortable? I've tried the Sony ex71's and the shure e3c's and man, I can't wear ear-canal type phones I guess because I hate the pressurized feeling I get when wearing them.

I'm just wondering because everyone seems to love them.

I had to quit wearing mine - apparently I have really narrow ear canals or something, because I could only wear them for about half an hour before my ears hurt like crazy - even with the smallest set of tips on them. Plus the little rubber tips keep falling off - got one of them stuck in my ear a couple times.

You're exactly right. Sound cancelling headphones produce noise out of phase with ambient sounds to try and cancel them out. To the best of my understanding, they work best with constant background noises (think the droning of constuction or air conditioning or the like). These headphones are sound isolating headphones physically block out background noise. In the case of these headphones, they sit in you ear canal, and are kind of like a pair of earplugs with speakers inside. Thus, outside sounds are blocked out and you don't have to crank up the music nearly as loud to hear it, even in a noisy place.

I own a set of e3's (by the way the e3's and e3c's are the same thing, just different colors), and like them quite a bit. They have great sound. You really have to get the things seated properly in your ears to have them sound right, though. I find the tips with the earplug style yellow foam are the most comfortable and stay in place the best, but you'll be annoyed really quickly if you need to take them in and out a lot. I decided not to go for the e4's or e5's because I planned to use them primarily with my iPod, and there's not much point in plugging in $500 headphones to listen to compressed music files.

Anyway, I like these quite a bit. I don't know anything about the site that the OP listed above, but I bought mine from djdeals.com for the same price with free shipping and had no problems. They also have e4's and e5's there, if anyone's interested (note that you need to actually place the items in your cart to see the real price they sell for, rather than just checking the item page itself).

So how good are these headphones compared to noise cancelling headhpones? Let's say for airplane use.

Has anyone ever dealt with these people before. They aren't listed on Resellerratings and they are from New York City. Two strikes.

Here is their return policy:
"Unless otherwise stated, you have 14 days from the date you placed your order (regardless of when you actually took delivery of the product) to get a valid RMA from our website and get your product to a shipper to return back to us. It does not have to be back in our warehouse within 14 days, but it does have to be in the possession of the shipper (along with the valid RMA). No longer then 30 days from the date of purchase."

So if they delay shipping (they don't guarantee either the accuracy of their inventory nor the price they advertise) you could easily receive the item late and be stuck with it. Being from NYC I can say that this is a common scam to get out of accepting returns.

These are way better than noise cancelling headphones, doesnt require power and much more portable. Sounds better as well.
Tried shure, etymotic and the noise cancelling stuff from bose at trade shows, shure were my favorite.
They sounded good and was the most comfortable.

Wound up with the etymotics though, much cheaper and slightly better bass.

er6i

IMO, they sounded pretty close to the shure3c and almost half price.
The shure were more comfortable because they give you more options though.

This is true for about 99% of the people that wear these. I had to take back my E2Cs because the smallest ones were still too big.

If one friggin' company would come out with earbuds that fit NORMAL people, they'd take over the market. Why they make these damn inserts so big I will never understand.

That said, the E3Cs fit much better than the E2Cs. Like I said, if someone wants to take over the market and has the know-how, make earbud inserts that actually fit the human population.

The fit is a lot more snug than most people are used to. That said, I had good luck with the optional soft-flex earbuds for my E2Cs. The isolation isn't as good as the foam sleeves, but I find them to be far more comfortable.

yeah, wonder what kind of tips everyone is/was using? i couldnt stand the scrubby foam tips (hurts and irritatates the ear cannal) , but flex tips are awesome - comfy and sound good.
funny how some anandtechers seem to think they are lacking in bass while head-fiers think otherwise, the very opposite in fact; they are criticized for having too much loose, bloated bass.

As for price/performance ratio, you could always pick up a used pair for a very affordable price ($50ish) I heard some good things about the newer sennheiser isolating earbuds (CX-300) though, and they probably offer better value.

I havnt heard any ety cannalphones in person, but the general consensus is its the cannalphone of choice for the folks preferring cold, analytical sound with bright (viewed as shrill to some) and lean sound. Personally, I found some link between peoples preference for sony SA-5000 or <insert the name of your analytical phone here> and ety phones, as opposed to those who dig senn HD-650/600/580 sound and prefer shures for the cannalphones. I happen to belong in the latter group and havnt looked back since I got my E2C - dont really need anything better for portable use.
