what sonic expectations do you have? If one of your answers is "profound bass" the E2C is not for you. This thread has some popular alternatives you can check out.

I, personally, along with my brother and a couple friends could not get the bass to work in that IEM. Some people report decent bass. My Altec Lansing IM716 (based on the Etymotic Research ER-4P) has a decent amount of bass, but not nearly as much as my koss portapro over-the-head standard earphones.

For IEM, it all rests on the FIT. If it doesn't fit right, you will get zero bass.

Not sure what to get at this point.

I love my E4Cs. The bass is "true" and not overdone like 90% of canal/ear phones out there.

the best way to figure out if IEM is for you is to try out your friend's. Otherwise, its a gamble :/

Grado SR 60.

there is no argument to be had, for that money it is the best thing you can buy.

had grado px100, px200, mx300, mx500, hd497, grado sr60, grado sr80, akg k401, akg k501, akg 240s, sony v6, sony d-66sl eggos, etc etc etc

my favorite is Shure E2c.

I like the Shure E3.. looks are better (more discreet.. less hearing-aid'ish)... it has slightly better high range and clarity but the midbass is much more lacking relative to E2c

well you never made it clear that portability was a concern. in that case, I approve your choice.

Frankly I would get a standard headphone like Grado SR60 or Koss portapro because to me, getting the most sound/$$ is important. For you, portability is very important, so I would most likely head over to headfi.com and check out what their favorite e2C competition is in the price range you mentioned. IEM filters can get clogged easily with earwax and pocket dust, so do be aware that you will have to take extra care with the IEMs and clean them out frequently and buy replacement filters as necessary.

I ended up not getting any headphones and used the zune ones. They are pretty damn good. But in the end i gave my zune to my mom since she really liked it and i had no use for it.

Well i thought the zune was awsome. I just only used it every now and then so i ended up giving it to my mom since she kept asking me about it.

thank you, that concern alone has dissuaded me from buying one.
I was getting interested in getting either a Senn CX300 or the Shure E2C since they have gotten cheaper. But since I am a lazy ass I doubt i will clean them regularly ;p

What about the Koss KSC75's? They're small, sound like Grado SR 60's and have a lot of bass along with a lifetime warranty.

I thought that the E2C's were fantastic, as long as I had the right foamies on it. I used the large soft rubber ones and they worked great. Very neutral response, but incredibly clear. They are the only headphones that I've tried where I kept turning the music down because they were so isolated. But I sold them.

all absolutely correct. u need a good seal (with foams or rubber sleeves). with the white silicones or small foams.. they sound very boring
