*shriek*... Horror Flicks!

I voted for The Shining. The Kubrick one.

And you listed The Ring 2 times. You could mod one to include the Japanese version, Ringu. Also, a few of those listed were not as good as their sequels were, like Evil Dead 2.

fixed. thank u!

if someone else seconds ur vote for Ringu & Evil Dead 2, i'll add 'em. 😀

I just watched Amity vile horror. I thought it was pretty cool, mostly because its supposed to be *mostly* true right?

Though I havent seen half the movies on that list, ill have to check them out.

Cabages, I personally recommend Halloween to start off with if you haven't seen it. The lighting and camera work is just excellent, the movie holds up well over time. None of the following Halloween movies captured the same feel that the first gave me. Avoid parts 3 through 6. Those bored me. Part 7 (H2O) was all right. Have yet to see part 8 and Rob Zombie's movie. Evil Dead creeped me out for some reason. The Evil Dead series is more of a comical demonic type gorefest, but something about it is wrong (aside and along with the treerape in the first). The Evil Dead trilogy is very entertaining. Dawn of the Dead (1978) is my favorite zombie movie, followed by Return of the Living Dead. The Thing is top notch (the PC game was awesome as well and a continuation of the story in a way). The Descent is a good scary flick too. Elm Street, Hellraiser, and the 13th series are generally good horror movies.

There's too many equally good horror movies to deem one the best. Also there's a variety of genres within the horror genre (you got slashers like Halloween/Scream etc., psychological thrillers like The Shining etc., Zombie movies). It's hard to pick just one movie.

I've always been a big fan of Halloween/Shining/The Exorcist... I always watch AT LEAST those 3 when it comes Halloween time. Ill also throw in some other movies, including horror movies i've never seen before, no matter how bad they sound.

When the Ring first came out (the American version), I rented it on VHS, and watched alone, in the dark...it was kinda freaky...actually.

Phantasm! 🙂

Loved that graveyard lovemaking scene.

It was a great low-budget movie for its time, with the creepy midgest and The Tall Man.

I have to agree with MartyMcFly3 though, there are too many good movies, in too many different styles/sub-genres to pick just one.

Some essentials that aren't in the poll:
- Lifeforce
- Return of the Living Dead
- Cemetery Man
- Five Million Years to Earth (aka Quatermass and the Pit)
- Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland version)

My favorite horror movie out of the OP's choices is the Exorcist, but IMO the best movie on the list is The Thing which although scary is more Scifi then horror.

No/false to the rest.
