Shredding CD's?

Does it work? Any other easy way? I have about 100 regular CD's from old backups and I want to convert to DVD's.

I use the CD shredders at work sometimes. As long as no one is working around there it is effective, pretty loud though. You can also burn them (literally set them on fire).

I've cut them with a pocketknife..just score across the disc's surface and it's not readable - at least not by anything I have. :p

Yep. I just always put a gouge in the top so that the foil comes off.

No, a shredder will not convert CDs to DVDs.

I don't believe writeable DVDs can be considered permanent storage, unless they've improved in the last few years. Even if they have improved, I hope you're keeping an additional copy of all of this stuff on a hard drive.

You could probably set a stack of them on top of a 100kV+ coil, set a ground wire near the top of the stack, and wait.
I'd imagine it would damage the foil on most of them, though you might wind up with a fire at some point, so be careful. ;)
