He didn't get far .... I know if he would have left the assault rifle at home where it belongs, he could have left the video camera at home as well. I wonder if he learns from this to leave his assault weapon at home next time? Maybe we should just ban him for life from owning another firearm. Lucky he didn't get his dumb ass shot. Shoot First ask questions later in this day in age. Why should cops have to risk their life with a nut like this?

In Texas you can carry a long arm in public, on the side of the road, in your truck in plain view, or on your ATV in plain view,,,, and no laws have been broken.

The AR-15 is not an assault weapon, as it is not fully automatic or selective fire.

Maybe we should just ban him for life from owning another firearm.

Ban him for what reason? No laws were broken.

As I always do when we go on these hikes and walks, I took my trusty rifle with me as there are coyotes, wild hogs, and cougars in our area.

. In Texas, it is legal to openly carry a rifle or shotgun as long as you do so in a manner that isn't calculated to cause alarm. In other words, you can't walk around waving your rifle at people.

That said, I have a feeling there is more to this than the video shows. It might be a bit like the kid who was supposedly "suspended for having an NRA t-shirt": yeah that might have been the first part of some sort of encounter with authority but it was probably the kid being a douche to everyone later on that resulted in real problems. That is probably what is going on here. Hard to say without video of the whole thing.
