Showing 1.6 GHZ on QX6700 it suppose 2.66

i have this cpu Intel Extreme Quad X6700, Asus P5WDH Deluxe, CorSair Dominator4-4-4-12 2GB

the problem i have is

it is showing im running 1.6GHZ it suppose to be 2.66

how to solve this issue,i did upadte my BIOS to the latest one

and the multiplier drop to 6 instead of 9 , i check it from asus Software and i change it to 9 and raise the FSB to 300 and i restart my PC and it back to Multiplier 6 and i tried from bios - ichange to 443 FSB and my PC wont show up

please give me some advise what setting that i miss or give me the complete setting for this motherboard

It isnt an issue, it is what intel speedstep is. If you run anything that is CPU intensive it will crank up to 2.6GHZ. The multiplier drop is basically a power saving feature when the processor is not in use.

so how can i make it always stays 2.66 will it possible if i turn off the intel speedstest

Look in your BIOS for an option called SpeedStep or EIST and turn it off.

Honestly though there is no benefit to keeping it always at 2.66GHz. Speedstep only slows your processor down when you are not using it. If you must though disable it in the bios usually under power management. Again there is no downside to speedstep, except reading a 6 instead of a 9 when you arent doing anything.

just wondering how can i change my muliplier to 9 instead of 6 and if i want to overclock what voltage should set to?

i want to overclock to 3.4 , and currently im using zalman 9700 LED cpu fan and with current speed the idle is 23C load is 34c

Ok wait, is Speedstep on or off. This statement makes no sense.


As far as overclocking, if you want 3.4, then up your front side bus to what it would be for 3.4Ghz at a 9x multiplier. If you try the calculation using the 6x multiplier you will fry your comp almost guaranteed.

If you want CPU-Z to show you your max speeds/voltages the proc is running at, try opening Orthos or something before opening CPU-Z this might clarify some things.

Yup! That's right

QX6700 has default 10x mult, not 9x.

so you only need 340 fsb to hit 3.4 ghz.

In bios look for C1E Support and turn it off. this will fix your multiplier at 10x not 9x
