I use pure black backgrounds because in my mind, I think that it saves battery power but have no idea if it really does or not. Does anyone know for sure? because I really like rain and foggy atmospheric pics for some reason.

Indeed it was....

holy fuck how the hell did you find that? lol I can barely find my own posts if it's older than 3 months. I remember seeing that pic. I noticed Trygve hasn't posted since 2009, wow, he must be dead. Maybe all that equipment fell on him?

You won't save power on a lcd. The backlight will be on regardless, but showing a black pixel. With amoled, there's probably a theoretical power savings, but not enough to worry about unless you're trying to conserve every joule possible. Saves wear on the display though. AFAIK, a crt will save power by showing black, but that only helps make up for the energy expended hauling it up to your desktop :^D

I think my phone is amoled, Galaxy E5. Not sure what my Mac's screen is but I try to keep the brightness as low as I can tolerate.

AFAIK, all the Galaxys are amoled. Keeping a dark background, as well as keeping the brightness down, and the display off when not viewing will prolong the life of the display.

Keeping the brightness down should save power on a lcd. I prefer dark backgrounds, and dim lights in general. I especially hate white backgrounds. I use dark themes on all programs that support it, and any website I frequent, I either find or create a dark theme for it.

Heh, I actually went out and found a screensaver recently. Its called Ariel, which is what the Apple TV 4 does by default. I dunno why, but I find it very calming.

I like screensavers. Sometimes I just want to watch stuff move on the screen. I'm a little worried about xscreensavers when wayland gets released. Hopefully it'll be ported, or will work in a fallback mode, but screensavers have fallen out of favor, and it probably won't be a priority if something breaks.

I haven't had a screensaver in so long that I don't even know when the last time was. I have this as a background though.

I miss that clean simplified look though. At least you could bring it back in XP and 7 but everything after that is pure garbage GUI wise. But ME  At least put 2000 on that machine.

I didn't have issues with ME, so I have a soft spot for it. But this is coming from a guy who's favorite console of all time is a Sega Saturn.:whiste:

Shame that dark shades of backgrounds with white text can't be streamlined across the entire OS UI, they seem a lot more relaxing on the eyes. I remember one of the Linux distro's had that, at least on some of it and it looked really nice. I think it might have been Ubuntu

ME never gave me any problems either. Never understood the hate for it.
