Shouldn't we have a cure for the common hangover by now?

blah. i know how hangovers work and stuff, but seems like a group of doctors would get together and figure out a way to cure hangovers. do you know how profitable it'd be?

Obviously you do not know how they work. The chemicals that you ingest to get the high are the same ones that block the inhibitors in your kidneys.

You have poisoned your body and it takes time to heal. Until doctors learn how to speed up the natural healing process, you'll just have to address what you can to speed that healing along and relieve the pain.

In other words, drink lots of water and take an anti-inflammatory pain medication.

Water afterwards correct? Water before won't matter.

I was always a fond believer of water during and afterwards.

I never really got hungover mentally. Pretty much regardless of how much I drank after about ten minutes of consciousness I'm operating at 95%.
If I did drink entirely too much(30+ drinks) I'd have stomach problems, but this is because my stomach lining is irriated and the problem is easily cursed by pepto or by not drinking beer and only drinking liquor(400 or so ounces of acidic liquid does wonders to the mucus lining in the stomach).

Now I just don't drink that much out of respect to my kidneys, liver and stomach.

On that note it's time to go party!
Cheers all :beer::cool::beer:

The answer is simple...don't drink so damn much that you get a hangover. ;)

LOL wiki needs some updating, this is basic stuff you should have learned in Bio. Alchohol shuts off you (can't remember the exact name of them) inhibitors in your kidneys that close the pores in your "filter" when they another receptor (once again its been 10+ years so I forget the name) tells them that the body is not hydrated and needs to conserve water. Without these inhibitors, water excapes freely and you beconme dehydrated no matter how much you drink before of water. Its a myth that drinking a glass of water before every beer does anything.

That's weird, wiki covers the liver part but not what happens to your kidney's, but both contribute to your headache (goes off to search good old google).

if you are replacing water lost then you won't get dehydrated.

Basically, your body used/is using all the fluids it can to flush the poison from your system and as a result, you become dehydrated.

As soon as you stop drinking, start drinking water and lots of it. When you wake up, no matter how bad your stomach feels, drink a few glasses of water and take a few Advil.

BTW, spacing your beers out with waters inbetween makes you drink less alcohol, and IS a good thing if you're trying to avoid a hangover. So either way it works. :p

It really depends on how much you've had, yeah 3 glasses of water/gatorade and I'm usually ok, but for nights like last St. Patrick's day (19 Irish car bombs) no amount of water is going to prevent that hangover

i haven't had biology since 10th grade dude. but there has to be a reason why something so wonderful as alcohol causes you to feel so bad.

edit: maybe evolution isn't the right word, but there is a biological reason for it. kind of like pain, if you didn't have pain you wouldn't know when there was danger to your body. you need it to survive. i don't know, i'm posting with a hangover and another drink in my hand so excuse my apparent lack of knowledge.

Because alcohol is a wonderful poision.

There is a reason it's an antiseptic, and it's not because the germs get drunk, decide you're no fun when not drunk and decide to stop hanging around you.
