Shouldn't we be focussing on space?

with all this global warming , and the desire to move on, do you think we should start looking into moving out into space? i mean....one day, the earth wont be an area you can live on

From the posts you made in the gun owners thread I think you need to focus on getting some psychotherapy.

Instead of planning to move to a different planet, shouldn't we focus on protecting and restoring the earth's eco-system and environment??

hey you see, i look out in the future, not live day by day....weapons will increase violence and will start an unstable way of living....you want to chat one on one...fine! but dont say little smart remarks like you are.

.......So, how was your day?😀

no, not as quantity, but as technology increases in gun ownership, so will warfare technology. This can be more deadly to many more. And instead of talking for awhilw to back this up, the outcome of all this is that one country/ group will come out or stand above all, and eventually it will crumble. Weapons only lead to a superpower, and war.

But warfare technology is exploiting space🙁

Are you Michael Jackson?

We should indeed put significant focus on space, as it is our future. It would be best if humanity could live self-sufficiently off the Earth, in the case that humanity destroys Earth, or an asteroid hits it, or whatever else..

yea, sumthing lieka n astroid could hit...us destroying it over a long term isn't our only worry, space is always a good backup to any case

The two are far from mutually exclusive goals....why must we give up on progress to take care of the environment. :| That is my biggest problem with the environmental movement. Many envies want us to go back to huts....

English motherfvcker, do you speak it?

Why colonize when you can work to make the place you have already be better?

Personally I believe that we should do both, work to make Earth better, and also begin moving to another planet. There's no way that Earth can sustain the world's population in the future.

Now that private organizations are working to make it to space, I think we'll see it trully start to evolve into something useful. NASA, being a government run organization just doesn't make the progress it should. Hopefully Carmack and the other people like him who are working now to accomplish this will revolutionize the aerospace industry.

Dislaimer: I am anti-war but only from the cost (both financially and the life of Americans) perspective. I do agree getting the old leader and his sons out was a good move.

That said I think we should focus on a trip to Mars. The war on Iraq certainly could have paid for it which sucks ;( Zubrin predicts that a trip and first colony on Mars could cost as low as like what, 20-30 billion? Imagine if they had the 100+ billion funding that Iraq got...picture that being put into space exploration and propulsion development (to stop using conventional propellant...would be great doing some big funded research on alternate & faster methods of transportation). Not only would Mars be a reachable goal, but it would be fast if we could devise something 10-100x faster.

Perhaps if we could even develop something near the speed of light within this century then Alpha Centauri would be accessible and who knows what else. Sure the trip would still take 4+ years each way but imagine all the stuff that would be found.

People may think space is a waste of money but it isn't. There are far more keys and explanations out there that will help us in the long run.

Oh and a question I have for space buffs: what is the next closest system than Alpha Centauri that looks somewhat hospitable? Is Alpha Centauri the closest system or just the one that looks like it could breed life? I know nothing of space... 😛

I think we would kill ourselves off before we would kill the planet. It was here a long time before we were and will be here a long time after we are gone. I don't really feel like moving into space just yet anyway, radiation and the lack of air make kind of unsuitable. 🙂

You are taking it too far as to say we should go back to the huts.
Americans are the most wasteful in the entire world. They do not care how much they use up, they just care about themselves. Americans have more waste, use more power, put out more pollution than the rest of the world combined. And we have about 5% of the entire world's population.
Is it really neccessary to waste that much, use that much power, and put out so much pollution?

No, Americans just need to be more considerate.

Alpha centauri is the closest star from us at 4 light years.
We haven't even found if there are planets around it yet.

I'm all for space exploration, but we need a whole different way to escape Earth's gravity, I humbly submit the current methods are insanely wasteful & cost prohibitive.
