Shouldn't they make Nov 4th a federal holiday?

Most important electoral day for the nation. Seems like the best time to have a federal holiday. Might drive up voter turnout

No, democrats wouldn't want more people who actually work for a living to go and vote.

This, plus I don't want more people voting, means my vote matters less!

If anything democrats want higher voter turnout. THe ones that can't afford to take off work are the poorer people

People will take off for the day instead of vote if election day is a holiday.

Dear undecided voters and people who QQ about long lines at the poll station, meet absentee ballot, learn to use it! What the hell's wrong w/ people. You get the ballot a month before the official election day, that's plenty of time for you to do some research on all the issues and candidates.

Federal Holiday will only be a paid day off for government employees and bank employees. The rest of the slaves will have to work anyway...

There is absolutely nothing preventing people from voting. I don't care if you work 100hrs a week, it only takes 10minutes of your time. You've been able to do it anytime in the past two weeks, and if that didnt work you could do an absentee ballot. If you don't vote you have nobody to blame but yourself. Besides, who wants to take a tuesday off of work?

not every state has proper absentee voting or early voting or enough polls to get in and out in 10 minutes.

lines have been 1/2+ hour long here for 2 weeks, and i live in a small town. In my precinct the lines will be 2-3 hours long tomorrow.

I'd never say no to an extra holiday (or more to the point, an extra day of time and a half)

Can I drop "Columbus Day" if people don't want to add one? Trade Columbus Day for a real election day holiday? Or perhaps we can kill presidents day instead... how about we celebrate the PROCESS that gets them there, get some more dang poll workers with a clue, and get us a holiday on a day it is actually NEEDED.

we only have absentee voting if you legitimately can't make it, and no early voting. Only option is from 6am-6pm tomorrow. I'm working from 7am-6pm, then class from 6:30-7:45pm. So I'll try to get out the door by 6am so that I will have time to get in and vote and still make it to work on time.
