Shouldn't the Matrox G400 Max run 3dMark2000?

I put a matrox g400 max on an Abit VTX64 motherboard.

I'm trying to test the video card. When I run 3dMark2000 I get the error...

"requires a Directx7 compatible 3d accelerator"

I have directx7 loaded. It states...

Direct 3d accelaration... not available
AGP Support... not available

Shouldn't the Matrox G400 Max run 3dMark2000? Is there some other software on the matrox cd? powerdesk or something for the dual-head options?? re-loading the driver locks up the comp on restart.

Its a computer I just built and I want everything working correctly.

thanx!

I will be of no help to you (sorry) but I have also had problems with 3dMark. It requires a card with at least 4 megs of ram. My card has 4 megs, but I get an error stating that my card does not. Oh well, the card sucks anyways. I was just curious to how it would score.

It should run it just fine. What drivers are you currently using, and what OS?

4.11...wow where did you get those? They're old!

I would suggest you use Beta 6.01, yes it is beta but I have no problems what so ever. Remember to also use This utility to uninstall any pervious version of Power Desk. That's very important to do because older drivers will screw around with you newer Matrox drivers, the G400 is very sensitive to this.

EDIT

Extract the unintall utility into a temp file on your desktop or another directory, and run. Once you reboot you may delete that temp file or save it to another directory for later use.

It doesn't run??? Good! 3Dmark is a useless benchmark. The less often it runs, the better.

I tried new drivers I listed. It was locking up when shutting down. Tried beta drivers, and now it is locking up after startup. no powerdesk..just freezes. trying to change things in safe mode.

Use the 6.01 BETA drivers. They are the fastest, and are pretty stable. Go for the brand new 6.04 non-beta for more stability/slower performance.

Mabye you need to disable the dual head feature for this test. I didn't see if you had the dual head feature on or not. Also if you have dual head on, mabye you need to choose the primary display for the test or something. I'm just guessing here but I'd be interested to see if that works 'cause I'm using a G-400 MAXX

Try using the 5.30 drivers. These are the most stable drivers for the G400, but is slower than the newest betas. Also try flashing the latest video bios for the G400 and bios for you're mobo.

I dunno if that abit is a via. If it is than bet the 4.24 or 4.25 4in1 drivers for it.

Also make sure you got the latest version of 3dMark2000. The older one had problems with the G400.
