I got the 6400 because it seemed everyone is FSB limited on overclocking, so I figured higher multiplier. Well I'm, CPU limited, I can drop the Multiplier to 6X and easily get to 450+ FSB with the DS3, but I cant top 3.2Ghz, and that's at 1.47 VCore. My cap at stock VCore is about 3.04 or so. And that is not just random luck, I built 2 of these machines, other one so far looks to be about the same cap.

 
Guess I got some CPUs out of a worse batch, cause it has to be the CPU. Using same MB, same CPU, if I lower multiplier I can top 450+ FSB (Havent tested how high just wanted to check if FSB was a issue). Temps are nice and low... I dunno what else it could be. What even more tells me CPU is right near my limit one core will get errors the other will be fine for another 20Mhz or so. If it was FSB or Ram (Which as I said I tested much higher with lower multiplier) I should get errors on both cores.

And the fact that if I raise Vcore I can keep gaining small amounts, but Im not comfortable with running it at 1.5+.
 
So you are sure one core is more stable than the other? You are using stock HSF and thermal paste? What temps are you getting and is there a significant rise in temp when you overlock? The temp sensor can't tell each core's temperature (I dont think). Makere sure you have good thermal efficiency between both the cores and HSF. Best I heard is AS5; you drop a rice size bird dropping smack in the middle of the core and let the hsf spread it out when you install it, also wiggle it anti-clock wise as per arctic instructions.
Or just you have crappy luck like me.

He was using an engineering sample and its been pointed out before that the ESs are overclocking better than the newer revisions that are shipping now. Maybe this is just more proof of that. I wouldn't feel too bad though, since you're faster than any stock desktop available for a lot less than an extreme edition costs.
 
Is there any specific setting to have available multipliers visible? I can't find where to change multies in BIOS. (P5W-DH)/End OT

Wait till they come out with new BIOS(es). It has been reported the Gigabyte boards show weird behaviors per different CPUs. A consensus so far is there is a certain FSB "wall" depending on the memory straps utilized. Not only the multipliers but also L2 cache size seems to matter.

What is your max clock w/ stock Vcore? (say, @1.3V)
 
The DS3 allows you to set 6 7 and 8 as multiplier for the 6400. I am using a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for the HS with AS5. There is no FSB wall, I can easily hit 450 by dropping the multiplier. Chipset voltage will not let me go any higher, only VCore. My CPU temp never tops 40-43C.

And I deff don't feel bad about it LOL, it is still insanely fast. I went from a Athlon 64 3200+ and Nvidia 6800GT to this with a X1900 XT. Went ATI cause get good accomodations, paid $250ish for that card.

Someone brought up the BIOS thing, I dont think BIOS will help since it really seems to be a CPU limit, it's not a memory limit or FSB limit. But I am using the beta F4C BIOS and it helps other things, like if I had my keyboard plugged into USB and had my PCI IDE card plugged in I couldnt get into the BIOS, they fixed that. Thankfully to I was tired of pulling out my IDE card to go into the BIOS everytime LOL.
 
3.2 GHz is pretty damn impressive IMO 😀

I think E6600+ will be required for averages of 3.4 GHz +
