Should you go limp in car accident?
I don't know if there are statistics on this, but I swear I've heard that ejection from the vehicle is the biggest killer in car accidents.
My co-worker lost her cousin to a car accident 6 months ago. Another car had spun out and was stuck in the roadway, but on the other side of a hill, so her cousin didn't see it until the last second, and tried to swerve out of the way. He caught the rear quarter at about 50 MPH. If he was wearing his seatbelt, I doubt he would have even been seriously injured. But he was ejected from the car and killed.
As someone who has worked in law enforcement (military police) and has many friends in law enforcement (military and civilian), they indicate repeatedly that many fatalities from vehicle crashes were directly attributed to a lack of seatbelt wear, especially with ejections.
I'm positive there are plenty of statistics that show seatbelts help way more than they hurt, but too many people believe their "friend of a friend who says..." bullshit stories.

sounds like going limp is the way to go, assuming you can actually do it.
Why all the ejections? No belts?
What I hate the most is when I hear people complain "It's uncomfortable". Wow. Call the wambulance, a belt across your lap and infront of your shoulder is uncomfortable! You know what I hear is uncomfortable? Hospital beds.

Olivia Carolee Culbreath was just 17 years old when she was convicted in a San Bernardino juvenile court on April 13, 2010, of driving drunk, DMV officials said. She was cited for traffic violations at least two more times before her license was reinstated in December 2011, state records show

A 21-year-old Fontana woman was charged Thursday with multiple counts of murder in connection with a wrong-way driving crash on the 60 Freeway that killed six people.
Olivia Carolee Culbreath was charged with six counts of murder for allegedly driving a red Chevrolet Camaro the wrong direction on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar early Sunday morning before smashing into a Ford Explorer, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Authorities said they found evidence suggesting Culbreath was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Culbreath was allegedly driving at more than 100 mph. But Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office, said no DUI-related charges had been filed, although that could change.

It sounds like your buddy was the driver, don't you think that if he was awake he wouldn't have crashed in the first place? My buddy fell asleep in his car and veered off into the forest. He nailed 3 trees. His car was broken into 4 different parts. He awoke in the hospital with only a broken toe.
He was very lucky, and I feel that because he was asleep he was able to survive the crash. If he was awake he would have been dead. He had his seatbelt on as well.
