Should we teach monkeys how to type?

AFB

Lifer
I really think it would help with the type writer therory. Would them learning programing help them learn algebra? Would this have any affect on their typing speed?

I'm learning calc now, and programming (basic C++) helped me understand algebra and put it to use.... homework suddenly got easy.

Programming calcs helps aswell

Exactly. It allows you to apply it a weird way that helps you understand it.

My answer: Nope
But, for those who may actually, possibly do something with math, it's not a bad idea.
Soooooo, I'm going to branch off and start my own thread and poll. 😛

I'm much better at programming than at algebra (and geometry). Apparently I have a logical mind, but math just mind-fvcks me.

BTW, I'm talking about something like Basic or another easy to learn language.

matlab, not basic/java/c++, MATLAB.

NO, if you cant do algebra then you dont deserve to touch a computer. And quite honestly I wouldnt want you designing anysoftware of mine.

No, a class in formal logic is better preparation than one in programming. Everyone should be forced to take at least one class in formal logic, and one in "informal" logic (critical thinking, logical fallacies such as straw man and ad hominem).

No. Maybe if all the students would become EE/CompE/CS majors. Just as an example, my girlfriend had to take algebra (Nursing). Why the fvck does she need or even care to learn programming?

retarded question.
no.

should programming instruction be available at that age? sure, why not? but why on earth would you force kids to take something just because it is loosely related to some other subject that they probably dont wan to take anyways?
