I won't support cutting help to the poorest people in the nation until all support to the richest is abolished...no more corporate welfare, no more executives getting away with light sentencing, etc.

Finally, someone talking sense.

Welfare is out of hand, and we need to limit it. But after this many years, some people are legitimately depending on it to be there when they need it. Then again, is it the government's job to write paychecks for nothing? Nope. Any waay tyou look at it, that should never be the government's responsibility. And we are not talking about corporate welfare or sentencing. That is different. Start your own thread. This is about the millions who live off the government like leeches, sucking away your and my money. Though maybe there are good exceptions.

The thread is about someone (or someones) being upset because the government is giving tax money to some people whom they don't feel deserve it. Therefore the concept is EXACTLY the same as my points...if you want the government to stop giving away tax money to the undeserving, start with cutting off funding to those who need it least.

You have an opinion: that the government does not exist to provide social services. Ok, that's a valid opinion, but it isn't the only one. The liberal consensus held by much of government for most of the 20th century was that government could be a source for good works. You don't have to agree, but you cannot infringe on the right of people to that belief.

If you want to do away with welfare, reform the areas that are making it necessary. Cripple corporate controls, deny capitalistic control of government officials, separate government from industry, support the working class, establish basic human service provisions, etc. Cut out governments funding of TRULY abhorent programs (like excessive military budgeting, infiltration and control of foreign governments, corporate welfare, subsidy programs for pet projects, etc). What you'll be left with is a balanced budget where money can get where it needs to in order for honest people to be able to support their families without welfare.
