Should we immediately confiscate every digital or other camera from US forces in Iraq?

It appears that no good can come of these people having cameras, and it is likeley that someone will do something stupid or criminal and take a picture again.

Ban the cameras?

Yeah!!!! I say ban them so that there can be no evidence of the "unAmerican" things Americans are doing to Iraqis. Mind you - these Iraqi's have proven themselves to be less than human, so who gives a flying crap about "torture"...

No. The troops are getting screwed enough as it is. I'm quite sure the chain of command in Iraq has instructed troops about discretion and subjects deemed acceptable for filming.

For example, back in the day, we were told that photographing enemy KIA or EPWs was off limits. Nevertheless, now, just like then, such pictures are taken.

Censorship isn't right. The troops should be allowed to photograph and publish our positions.

How about we put a minimum 5 year sentence in the brig if you engage in this kind of crap. That'll probably stop these frat boy hazing rituals in their tracks.

The pictures are a good thing because it offers proof that abuses occured and they cannot be swept under the rug.

Cameras should be allowed and encouraged. In my current area and all previous, we were allways reminded to bring a camera.

If you are dumb enough to do something illegal, get caught by a picture, and then convicted of whatever, good. Cameras will/can help detract dumb people, at times.

The having of cameras by the military folks is a military issue. Banning falls under that chain of command and really not subject to any 'freedom of press' issue.
The banning of cameras held by credentialed press members permitted by whatever authority to be there is insanity and violates our right to know what our 'government' is doing. Freedom of information is essential to support or withhold support for what we wish our elected officials to do. They may not wish us to know what 'their' agenda is but, never ever forget... we are the government ... they are simply our agents.

Nah, BAN THE US FORCES. No more violations, case closed.

You must live in a magical land where everyone is happy and peaceful and nothing bad ever happens. Any force from any country will have its idiotic soldiers doing horrible things.

What about the British soldiers?

No we're blaming them for forcing us to acknowledge more of the nonsense than we'd like to. So long as we never see any evidence to the contrary, we can live on believing that we are all innately and fundamentally better than every other country in the world, that we are beacons of morality for all the rest of the world to follow, and that abuses are only committed by our enemies, not by us.

People want something to believe in... and for many of them, their government is one such thing. As such, they prefer blissful ignorance to a disappointing awareness of reality.
