should ticket scalping be illegal? (unbelievable example inside)

"i have 100% positive feedback" ...check out my 10 other transactions where i got positive feedback, impossible for my friends to post unlegit feedback, bid with confidence on these 2 grand tickets...

Ticket scalping is impossible in a free market economy.
The only reason it exists is that concert tickets are artificially sold BELOW their market value.

I think I paid maybe $10 for the majority of the shows I went to.

Oh course this was back in the 70's.

Before music started sucking pond scum! 😉

But really, I would never pay even CLOSE to $100 for concert tickets, let alone the price this goof is asking.

If it were legal then when the next big thing comes up, some yahoo is gonna stand in line for days and buy all the tickets he can afford with the intent to sell them. that would suck. imagine some dude with a few thousand or 10 thousand bucks buying all the tickets for the show you want to see then selling them at 2x or 5x or 10x the price

Good reason, of course, NOT being "Because Person A shouldn't be able to do something I can't just because he/she has more money than I do." WRONG.

This guy/girl had the determination or connections to acquire tickets that are very desirable. Did you notice they were row 1? Either way, he/she's got a valuable commodity. I'm assuming that the Radiohead concert's sold out...

The bottom line is now this person owns a pair of tickets to a concert. If another person wishes to pay $20 trillion for said tickets, what business is it of yours?

Wouldn't happen. There aren't 10k people (Or however big concerts are these days) willing to pay those prices.

Items only sell for a price that the market is willing to bear. Kinda why SCO's going out of business.... 🙂

I am not sure what you did not understand.
Market value is NOT what YOU would pay.
It is the highest amount someone who knows about the ticket sale will pay.

Anyone who WOULD pay that kind of price has a problem IMO.

As far as tickets being sold below market value, that's crazy.

Why to you think it's called scalping?

It screwing someone over, simple as that.

If someone IS willing to pay a crazy sum of money for tickets is doesn't set the market value, it just means they have more money than brains.

As for the topic issue, you can set your price to whatever you want on Ebay. Nobody is being forced to buy from you, or to pay your price. You are doing nothing wrong. I can put up a used Kleenex for $1,000,000. If some fool out there is willing to pay me that much money for it, I'd be a bigger fool for not tatking their money.

Build a bridge and get over it.
 
Ticket scalping is illegal in some states or cities. As long as scalpers are not permitted to buy-up enough tickets to cause an artificial scarcity and thus drive prices up in any significant way, scalping should be legal.

I would say a max of four tickets per person is reasonable. If you want more, have someone else buy them.

Boxes of Kleenex for $2.50 are readily available from thousands of stores. Nobody would pay $1,000,000, or even $20, for a box of Kleenex for this reason.

Concert tickets have a natural scarcity. They are not readily available at the same price to everyone who might want them.

You are assuming that the majority of people on Ebay have common sense, which, as we have seen TIME and TIME AGAIN, they do not. Witness people bidding outrageous ammounts to buy empty boxes that products came in. There just might be someone out there to buy my snotrag. I have nothing to lose, and $1,000,000 to gain.

It's a free market in the US last time I checked! Someone knows the commodity and has the choice of buying it, how is that screwing someone over? Now if these where fake tickets now that would be screwing someone!

Just because you can't buy em, or not willing to buy em does not make this a bad thing. Yes I agree, I would never pay that much money for a 2 hour event, but if someone wants too... well that is free market economy! If you don't like it you can move to China or North Korea!
