Should there be worldwide population control laws?

I was talking with a friend about how high the worlds population is getting. We agreed that there should be some form of worldwide population law. Now here are some rather harsh thoughts (not my own, but I agree with some of what my friend said) on the matter: There should be a maximum of 2 children per couple, and after your second child you (and your spouse) should be made sterile. (vasectomy, tied tubes or whatever) Doctors should be sent into countries where they are having tonnes of children, and enforce the laws. Also for all that kill their children because it is not a boy or girl (leaving children out in fields or whatever), they should be either put to death themselves, or lose their right to have any more children, and have their other child put in a house belonging to people who are unable to have children.

You do know that the latest UN population report is predicting a population decline in the future.

Not trying to be communist, but there are just too many people. More people means more viruses and disease to go around, and with the new super bugs we are creating...

What if, god forbid, one or both of the children die? Now I cant have any kids? :|:disgust:

Nature has its own form of birth control. But I should think that if that time comes we will have been better off instituting one such form of control beforehand.

The problem of over-population is just an excuse for failing governments(third world) to blame for their failures in other areas.

I read once in scientic american once we could pack the worlds population in the state of florida and feed them just from that state. Move to nebraska and see how sparse it is.

"Good" from the standpoint of being provocative. "Bad" from the standpoint of essentially all proving to be wrong.

The problem is that humans have effectively defeated nature. Disease is the only thing that can still really stop humans, and at this point, humans are beating(or at least controlling) disease too.

Nature always has and always will be the final arbiter of where, how and if humans live/survive. When Mother Nature decides there are too many of us there will be absolutely nothing we pissant mortals can do to stop her from thinning out the population.

As to the person who said we could stuff the entire world's population into the state of Florida, yes, we probably could. They would, however all be dead with in a couple of months due to pollution and lack of infrastructure.

no way! Reproduction is a human right and no government should be able to restrict a person from having a child. Sure, some people have too many children, but those few individuals should not cause the rest of us to lose our reproductive freedom. Also, some countries are slowing losing their populations, especially in Russia and parts of europe. In Italy, the birth rate is so bad that the pope asked the people to start having more babies :Q

Who the hell said reproduction was a human right?

Back then, if you weren't big enough, strong enough or smart enough, you didn't get laid and that was the end of it. And it all worked out for the better.

d00d take it easy. China already has birth controls, and what's more, virtually every developed nation relies on immigration to keep it's population from declining. I know for a fact that if Canada didn't allow immigration, our population would be slowly declining. I think that Germany's population actually IS declining.

Almost all the world's population growth is in Africa and Southern Asia. Once the countries there develop to the level that Europe/North America are at, their populations will stabilize.

We are just over 6 billion right now. IIRC most population predictions say that we'll max out right around 9 billion, and then decline down to 4.5 or 5 billion.

No one said breathing was a human right either... nor was eating... Doesn't mean we should allow the government to put restrictions on it.
