I just scanned my comp for virus's last night for the first time in awhile, noticed i had a backdoor trojan, which I removed. Checked my msconfig and I noticed that I have a d:\windows\explorer\explorer.exe starting up, which shouldn't be there if my mind serves me correctly. Not only that, i've been getting some error messages for explorer.exe lately and had a couple random freezes... any ideas

ps. I used avg free edition to check comp for virus's.

after some minimal research on google i've discovered kazaa did it... didn't I read about this in a post recently... heh

Anyone know if it's dangerous or if I should change all my passwords or what

Yeah, you need the Explorer.exe

The only explorer that would be legit and starting when windows does is in the x:\windows directory. So it looks like the trojan is still there.

yeah, i recall that the explorer shell shouldn't be run off a simple startup thing and that everything in msconfig's startup can be disabled after installing xp... apparently no damage was done in terms of stolen info, just a bunch of websites popping up here and there
