Should their be a public registry of Gun Owners?

Its a lot easier if they have a database of who has a gun in their home now isn't it? I am sure you realize that people don't always carry all of their guns on their person at all times, aren't you? Do you also realize that there are times that no one is at home? Do you also realize that the gun, when no one is at home, will not shoot the bad guy all by itself?

True. if it did then there would already be a database.

If this is the problem, then just make the database available to law enforcement.

I am not saying gun owners are criminals like sex offenders, but like sex offenders are a danger to society, gun owners are danger too.

I don't think anyone doubts that. I think the issue that some people have is that a publicly available register might raise the risk of crime for the people in those homes.

Maybe the OP would support a list of black people as well, after all they are more likely to commit violent crimes. Make all blacks register so people can be notified if dangerous black people move into their communities? 🙄

Guns are weapons.
Weapons are dangerous
People with weapons are dangerous.

Any facts to back up that people who own guns are more dangerous than those who don't? Many studies have shown concealed weapons permit holders are LESS likely to commit crimes.

People holding a gun are 100% more likely to shoot someone than people who aren't holding a gun.

Is this idea a joke? I don't own a gun and am in no way a gun nut, but this is just an unbelievably bad - and pointless - idea. It would be a spectacular waste of resources in a time we have a massive budget crisis. No - on every level, no.

Quite true, if only they had some kind of license / registration system for that...

Does the public have access to DMV records? Does having a registration system prevent people without licenses from driving? If you have a dangerous driver in your neighborhood do you get notified? Should drivers be tracked by the government to determine if they are dangerous drivers even if they have never been caught speeding or any other moving violation in their lives? Should drivers of sports cars be put on a special list?

Does the public have access to DMV records?

No, I'm not agreeing with the public part of it.

Does having a registration system prevent people without licenses from driving?

Nope, but it makes it a hellovalot more difficult, in the UK if you drive in front of a police car with an unregistered car, it will flag up on their computer.

If you have a dangerous driver in your neighborhood do you get notified?

See above.

Should drivers be tracked by the government to determine if they are dangerous drivers even if they have never been caught speeding or any other moving violation in their lives?

They should be licensed to drive, the government should know if they have a car, if it is legally owned and registered.

Should drivers of sports cars be put on a special list?

Errm... No?
