Should the US be prepared for war against a belligerent China?

 • Yes, the US must do whatever it takes to safeguard its interests

 • No, the US should absolve itself from fighting a potential superpower

I can't say that I would be to happy with China sending a few super carrier battle groups (lets assume they have them for a moment) to Cuba and running military exercises in the Gulf of Mexico. Pretty sure they feel the same way but might makes right. Unfortunately the "golden rule" still applies and not sure if any of yall noticed but they have the gold and we kinda need it.

Bottom line, we ain't going to war with China. For the foreseeable future we are their bitches. If we both tell each other to get fucked then we both are economically fucked, our people rise up and our country is in serious trouble. Their people rise up and they, well the kinda kill them with tanks and shit until the rest STFU. They win.

OTOH, we should be prepared to fight and win against any aggressor. If they start landing troops in the US I will be among the first to pick up my rifle and fight for my homeland. I would appreciate if you would let me know when they are a few days out if you can but in a bind it doesn't take me long to put my boots on and load my mags.

The really amusing part of this entire discussion is the best way to prevent wars between countries is for those countries to trade "stuff" with each other. Guess what we do a lot of with China? Aint gonna be no war, we like their stuff and they like ours.

It makes perfectly good sense to me. That doesn't mean you have to be aggressive...just prepared.

Sounds kind of sad and sinister to me, I mean you meet someone, smile at them and say hello, but are thinking in the back of your head how to kill the person.
To each his own and all, but for me the thought never enters my mind

Hell...you should see the plans I have for you...😛

No. Let them do what they want as long as it isn't to us or one of our allies. It would be impossible for them to physically occupy the US.

QFT. Regardless of my views about Ronald Reagan, his quote "Trust in God, but lock your car" is quite apt.

Only a fool interacts with someone belligerent and doesn't have a backup plan for the worst-case violence scenario. Plans =/= destiny

Yep, their military would be squashed. It is coming up but still leagues behind the US.

They could overwhelm our military easily...as long as nuclear weapons weren't used.

Hell, China has so many people that we could kill them by the millions...and they'll still keep coming.

Do I think we could repulse an invasion on our shores? Yes. Do I think we could defeat them on the field of battle long-term? Hell no.

So, uh, the Chinese trying to absorb the US would indicate to me them trying to cross thousands of miles of ocean to invade our land. In which case, they're totally fucked.

Unless they used nukes to first soften/eliminate our defenses...yes, I think they'd be totally fucked.

On the field of battle they need food and water. Our modern day military could be effective at targeting those supplies and neutralizing their numbers in mass.

Quantity normal fails to quality. Gerard Butler I think taught us all that.

China is winning the war, it's just not a military war fought with weapons. They are incredibly patient and think in terms of centuries where we look at next month as "long-term".

They have no need to go to the expense of a military war. Their patience and our shortsighted greed is enough. They manufacture actual things, we move paper around and push buttons on a computer and call it "industry". Eventually they will be able to name their price for things we can't survive without because we won't know how to do it any more. And if we can't meet their price, why should they care? At that point they won't need us any more.

We fall all over ourselves to sell things in China and ignore the strings that are attached. First project, you have to partner with one of their companies. Next project, the % of work the Chinese have to perform is increased. Oh, they can't do it? Well, you get in there and teach them and give them the technology to do it with. If you want the money, that is what you have to do. Projects with "partnering" go on for a couple decades, and one day you wake up and notice they aren't looking for help any more.

If anything we should back down and let them do what they want over there.

You can't be serious. Let them do whatever they want?

Did you know that China said the whole China Sea (East Sea) is belong to them, not just part but the whole thing, from Taiwain all the way down to Malaysia/Singapore (look up on Google map and you will see how large the area is). The hell with international laws. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-10925061 Look at the map in the article, see the red line? Yup, that how China wants, the whole thing. See the blue lines? That's how it should be based on international law.

If we let them do that, then our friends and allies such as Japan, S. Korea, Malaysia,Taiwain, Australia and future friends and allies such as Vietnam, Phillipine, Indonesia will not able to travel and trade freely in international water. Half of the world merchan ships went throught that body of water every year. Yup, let China control and dictate that, right?

Remember how UK/France let Nazi Germany did whatever they want in 1930s? We all know the results from that.

Weird, I agree with both Jaskalas and Svnla :hmm:

It isn't our business, we should stay out, but this is a bit bigger than comparing it to the Gulf of Mexico, a lot more allies involved, and depending on what China is up it could get real dicey.
