whoa, i cant believe you ask that question on an application. afaik thats illegal here.

We use an industry-standard form (medical practice). The section is clearly listed as optional in bold print. We have no use for the information at all. It's just a standard form.

If the question is optional, then it has no bearing on her application and shouldn't even be brought into question. What she chooses to put down is also inconsequential.

But to answer your question, it sounds to me like she was trying to have a little fun. A good sense of humor is always a good thing. So yeah, I'd hire her if she's the most qualified person for the job.

I believe (in NY, at least) it's used to gather statistical information for the government and confirm AA quota fulfillments where applicable.

I wouldn't give her the benefit of the doubt. If you can find someone just as qualified, id hire that person.

i was under the impression that they cant ask you your age (unless you are <18) or religion or ethnic group. its so they can't discriminate on you before they ever meet you.
maybe its because i am in ontario.

Could she sue you for bias (mathematically challenged) if you didn't hire her? :p

I think on this one I would pass on her... Math skills 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 = either 1 very stupid indivual or 1 very large individual.

I once had a dumbass nurse tell me I HAD to take some medicine on Monday/Thursday only (this was for more than one week). I said why not Monday/Friday as it was easier to remember. Had to explain it to her that it would be the same cycle. One 2-day break and one 3-day break!
