We're seeking some information in reference to the aforesaid heading.

Operating system- Windows 7 64 bit

Browser- Chrome

Upon looking into the secure mail area, located in the purpose of certificate area, then advanced, one can notice the secure mail unchecked (See Picture).

Should this 'secure mail' be checked or left as is. Unsure if Google configured the mail in this way to avoid any unnecessary conflict. All replies welcome.

I just checked and mine is off by default as well.

Maybe the SSL option you linked to ("Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail") is actually a different setting you can change in Gmail itself (for importing emails using POP3/another account)?

Curious to hear the answer you get from Google Help Forums. :)

Maybe. Seeing that yours is configured unchecked (by default), I'll let it stay. There possibly could be a conflict when checking the box due to secure sockets, which some may not employ. A warning by Google would alert the user if this were so. Irrespective of the triviality on 'secure mail', thank you very much.
