Should ripping a cd to iTunes require 100% cpu utilization?

it's an athlon xp 3000+ processor

is that normal to have such cpu utilization while ripping a cd (i'm putting all my cd's onto itunes)?

considering that when you are "ripping" the music into itunes you are also encoding to aac(mp4) it wil probably take 100% cpu. you are not just putting a wav (this would be ripping only) on the machine.

yeah that would make sense to me.

heh i suddenly want an athlon x2

Your CPU usage will be at 100% if you are also converting the tracks. Don't worry about it.
