Should pop'ups be considered as malicious code as in the same field as a virus writer, hacker or spammer and the prosecuted as a criminal ?

anyways, yes and no. i believe that front pages should be free of popup ads, and if they want to have them on the rest of the site, they should put a disclaimer. anything further, is your own fault since you are proceeding, hopefully, of your own accord.

not analogous to virii because you get those just by checking your email. in other words, they come to you, you don't come to them. but you can't absolve the offending party completely, because the site is publically accessible and users have no way of knowing that it has popups.

well I just did the poll as humour bit... but I still think that IE should offer an anti-popup option.

I really don't mind adds, like show and add and then 5 or 10 seconds later go to the site, but jeez sometimes I have like 20-30 windows open just for adds, I'm at work so anti popups are not an option at home I'm ok though.

20-30? how many sites would this be for? for sites that i wouldn't mind my boss seeing, i get 1,2, 3 max. per site.

just get something like popup stopper and forget about it. 🙂
