Should people be allowed to use cell phones on planes?

FAA is going to make a decision soon on whether or not to investigate whether or not people should be allowed to use cell phones on planes. 😕

Anyway, I hope to god this doesn't go through. I'd kill myself if I had to listen to everyone's conversation in such a confined space. People don't have the manners to handle this. People don't understand that you don't have to scream into your phone to be heard. And others don't want to hear details about your love life or the latest "he said, she said" drama that's going on in your life. It's bad enough in public, but on a plane, when you're literally inches from people, it's completely rude and inappropriate.

you wont be able to anyway except for taxi time.... there's no reception up there- you'd be skiping across the top of the tower's range bubbles... right?

Better they talk to someone else rather than me. This way I can just ignore them.

That's if they aren't some hot chick. I got a girl's number in Chicago last time I flew from Japan🙂

Picocell = no escape.

I think they should have a 'obnoxious fvcker' section where all these tools can sit together and drown each other out.

No you can get reception "up there"

Of course they should. This nonsense about cell phones affecting an aircraft's electronic systems is pure BS. If that were true, there would be NO cell phone towers within a 14 mile radius of any airport and the flight paths would have to be cleared of them as well.

This all stems from early laptop use with lousy shielding.
Given that no one pays attention during the safety briefing ANYWAY, it seems to me that a set time for cell phone use would be a reasonable restriction, but if you need to place a call / receive one, there is no logiocal reason for prohibiting their use.
As if one could get a signal at cruising altitudes anyway.

I'd have to agree with all of that.

i completely agree with your post and have nothing more to add. people can't handle something like this without being totally rude to everyone else in the confined space of an airplane.

Can you imagine all those people who talk while driving, they'll be talking non-stop while locked on an airplane. It will majorly suck to get stuck next to that type. The technology is still a few years off and I think the cost will keep most consumers away.

God no...like you said, having to listen to 10 different conversations in a confined space, ugh.

Yeah. Internet, so we can use AIM and surf the web would be awesome. But cell phone convos? Ugh. That would be awful.

the only problem I see is that it will possibly interfere with other networks. If you high up you could possibly be in range of two different cell networks that are using the same channels.

yes, and they should also be courteous about it - just as if they are in a restaurant, train, bus etc.

just bc some people aren't going to be courteous doesnt mean it should be prohibited.
