Should old people be retested for their drivers licence?

yes but it will never happen.

and if it did happen, i think everyone should have to get retested every X amount of years, with old people getting tested like every X/2 or so years.

Mention this to the states and require a testing fee and you'll see it next week.

Let's require EVERYONE get retested every two years. That gets around the whole "You're picking on old people" complaints.

Full testing, written tests, vision and hearing tests, driving tests, drug and alcohol testing as well.

fuck all that mess. make it like a passport, every 10 years. every 2 years would be WWAAYY too often. the MVA/DMV is already way too fucking crowded w/out everyone having a license having to be tested every 2 years. imagine how awful it would be to go there w/this new testing procedure.

Should people need to be retested for their drivers license once they reach a certain age? I have seen some old people do some pretty dangerous things. Driving through stop signs and red lights. Going so slow they impede traffic. Drifting in an out of lanes. I think once people reach a certain age they should be retested and prove they still have what it takes to be behind the wheel.

no. dont retest them.
trial lawyers love (suing) them. and their clients usually can live high off the hog for a while by taking away grandma's house.

sooner or later the selfish children will relaize that they're not going to get anything when grandma dies if she keeps driving. and they'll step in not to save grandma or society but their inheirtance.

so leave the issue alone. let nature/trial courts take it's course.

Yes.
I think your first license test should be a little more difficult than it currently is (this varies, obviously), and then you should be retested when you reach 40, maybe 50.
Yes, most people even at 50 are just about the same at driving as they've been most of their adult life (maybe they've slowed down a bit, not due to reaction time but rather they don't feel like pushing limits anymore). After 50 though, license tests should be every 5 or 10 years. Maybe one test at 50, one at 60, and then definitely once every five years after that.

After a certain age people should be retested every other year, imo
Should probably include everyone. Maybe everyone every 5 years. They already demand that I get my picture taken that often.
Shit happens. Brain damage, alcohol causing brain damage, children causing brain damage, falling asleep with the car idling in the gargage brain damage. There are lots of things that can make people suck at driving and it's not just limited to old people.

Unless they have been ticketed to the point it appears there may be a problem, then no.
Terrible logic. Let me explain how it works in every city ever in the world ever.
-most tickets given out when there is no collision are for speeding
-most speeding tickets involve either a speed camera at an intersection or a photo radar van which is operated by a computer

Cops 'round these here parts hand out billions of tickets every year, but they don't actually stop the person from speeding. If you're going 100mph in a school zone, the photo radar van takes a picture and you get a ticket in the mail. The police don't actually pull you over and give you a ticket, in most cases. If you're retarded enough to speed in front of a moving police car then yeah you'll get pulled over, but nobody does that.

I don't know. Seems like an insult in a lot of ways. It's not like the driver's test tests the ability to drive anyways. It just tests their ability to remember trivial driving facts that come into play once in half a decade.

While I dont agree its an insult, I agree with everything else.

People should get screened for sleeping/fainting disorders as well. Hearing about people talk about how they've passed out three times gotten in two accidents that didn't involve other people luckily but are still driving is a fucking scary thought.

We also need to make the test harder.

My driving test basically consisted of , driving in a residential area at 35, 2 stop signs, using blinkers, parking into spots, reversing and parking on a hill test(yea lol in florida) and 3 point turn.

Easy and it incorporates easy everyday normal tasks.

To make it harder,I think they should add another test, A full on Slalom in the car that they are going to be driving with some avoidance tests wet and dry.

And some sort of test that will show not to follow too close on the highway

the driving test should be a race track with pylons representing pedestrians. Your average of 3 laps must be below a certain time and you fail if you hit a pylon.

Never happen unless you retested everyone. Most young people don't vote but all old people do.No politician would be foolish enough to introduce a bill that would single out the elderly

Finland.

Yes. they should be tested yearly after age 63 (or whatever age it is now that SS kicks in). but also since they are testing yearly at that age it should be free to keep the license.

Yes, but to effectively restrict their driving you'll have to take away more than their licence. You would pretty much have to mandate that they sell their car (they WILL drive otherwise).

Actually I think EVERYONE should have to retest every 10 years.
And the written exam in all states needs to be MUCH tougher. Like fail 50% the first time around.

Also I think it should be easier to lose your license for stuff like DUI's and running reds.
And you should have to take the full drivers ed again if you do lose your license. Way too many states just hand it right back after 90 days and no training.
