Here in Vegas I have an Albertsons and a Smiths (a Kroger company) a mile from each other. Albertsons is more expensive. If they get bought by Kroger I wonder 2 things.

1. What will happen to prices?
2. Will both stay open?

As mentioned earlier in this thread, consolidation in any industry almost always results in higher prices.
Also mentioned is that the merged company will jettison some of its stores; partly to eliminate redundancies and probably partly to clear regulatory review.

And to reduce service and convenience to the community.

Kroger.

Not Krogers.

IMHO it's not a real grocery store if the name doesn't end in 's

kroger's, meijer's, trader joe's, sam's, aldi's, giant eagle's, marc's

these are all appropriate grocery store names

How you gonna do QFC and Safeway like this?

safeway's and QFC's

no extra syllables and that nice 's which is a must-have for any grocery store!

my grandpa even called walmart "walmart's", but when he got close to 80 he started calling it "walmark" for a reason which i was never able to determine

Whaddya, get paid by the S or something? Are you a sssslithery little ssssnake?

I shop at a local "Untermarket" that has basically everything I need from a grocery store but instead of 10 different options for each thing they have one or two good quality options. Great butcher/produce sections as well.

Frankly we should be moving toward smaller markets, not these behemoths that drive ultraprocessed shelf stable crap so their logistics chain makes sense.

This kind of shit keeps going, we'll all buy our foods from Grocery, Inc, buy our motor vehicles (if we're still allowed to have them) from Cars, Inc, get our electricity from Electricity, Inc, natural gas from Gasco, Inc, etc...one corporation for each category...possibly all owned by the same mega-corp.
