I couldn't agree more with this statement.

Reason enough to choose WoW over EQ2, and is the reason I did.

Aside from the fact that you need a $5,000 machine to play EQ2 reasonably well in zones like Qeynos North/South, Qeynos Harbor, etc.

Blizzard has my support because they make FUN games and actually listen to gamers, whereas Sony couldn't give a rat's ass what you think about their games. They make games for profit, regardless of what you like or don't like.

I choose Blizzard.

I've played both and I prefer WoW about a thousand times over EQ2, I got up early this morning to buy it as a matter of fact.
You can customize every aspect of the WoW interface with XML.

I'm still debating this.
I have yet to try EQ2 but I did play OB for WoW a week ago. As much as I wanted to fall into WoW I'm afraid it didn't happen, I can honestly say that I enjoy EQ1 more than WoW, call it glutton for punishment I don't know.
I don't like SOE, I hate the way they treat their customers and some of the schemes they pull but I admit that I want to try EQ2.
Perhaps I need to play WoW more, I'm not certain.
If I play EQ2 I might have some actual constructive comments to make in comparision.;)
Back to CoD UO in the meantime and HL2 and CS source.

The WoW servers arent really overcrowded, they just put the queues in place to even out the population and prevent too many people from registering to one server. Once the big influx of accounts dies down they will remove the wait times.

Spend 40-50 on the game
Plus 15-20 per month to play it online?

The answer is easy, PASS on both, both companies are RAPING you!

I have to disagree with this statement. Although I do agree the game engine only shines when you go above ATI 9800+ and Geforce 6600GT+ based cards I have two systems running EQ2. First system

AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (barton)
1024MB 2x512 Geil Ultra Plat DDR DC
60GB 7200RPM WD 8mb
Geforce FX5500 256MB

This system is not top shelf at all the board/CPU/RAM is nice but the Video although has lots of frame buffer memory is lacking the HP department, but I can run EQ2 at 1024x768 on customized settings and it runs smooth. It is with some nice eye candy turned off, but we are not talking about missing much as much as we are talking about distance. Even on highest performance setting and some minor tweaks it still looks better, let me correct this more detailed than WOW.

My second system is a P4 2.8/800fsb, OCZ gold 1024MB, and a Geforce FX 5900 256MB I run on balanced settings and it is smooth with only some slight skipping in certain views, but if you have ever played EQL an ran into POK when everyone was on, this is not even close to that bad. For the most part more than playable and I have no complaints.

Now since these machines are not running the top of the list for video $400+ I am not sure where the $5k comes from. There were and will always be games that push video graphics to the extreme that never run very well at release unless you had the top hardware, how many of you remember the numbers in Quake 3 at release? Most of you should note that the majority do not run X800's and 6800 Ultra's that is not even realistic due to the cost of the cards. In a year and hopefully with more driver, software and hardware development this game will only run better, as well cards that run it fine now will drop drastically in price with newer more powerful cards coming out every 12 to 18 months.

What I do know is for $178 to $220 a Geforce 6600 GT will run this game without any problems, the load times are RAM related you need 768MB and higher for the load times to be sub 7 seconds.

I know this thread in general is like #12 million posted ever, the thing to remember is that you should choose the game that fits you. I think alot of the gamers that make statements like SOE has no integrity, also say the same thing about MS yet what os do they run, and how many of them own sony products? (I know different dept same co.) I think alot of you who slam SOE do so to fit in more than actual first hand exp. This is common in alot of forums. This is Blizzards first real jump in the MMOG pool with a product that comes from a good lineage of games (I myself am a huge Warcraft fan.) So the game looks much like its single player counterparts, that is the style of game it is, just as EQ2 is following (now matter how much you slam it) its successful EQL from 1999. The graphics are totally different as are the base products. If you like just to go out and play either game, you will find bugs with both, but both games if you stick to them, play with a friendly nature with others, not take either game too seriously, and you find that when you sat down it was 9PM and when you got up it was 3AM then you got your moneys worth. I played EQ1 cause a friend asked me too, I however did not pay for it cause I could not see paying for a game I already bought, so my friend let me use his account. I now have two EQ2 accounts one for me and my wife (biggest quest ever to get her to play = I win!).

I played the WOW beta and thought it was fun, I purchased EQ2 cause I like the detail of the game and some of the improvements I felt they added that should have been in the original. (and the special effects :) ) again preference of style.

Not having played these "pay to play" games before, what can you guys justifiy to pay 15/month to play a game online?
Just curious how you justify paying that (besides their servers need updating.........so do the servers of UT2004, and Battlefield).

those games dont require massive amounts of dedicated networking and round the clock support for up to 500k players at once...

if it costs 50 bucks a month for a 3mbit cable with 64k upload... imagine what a OC3 or bigger with minimum of 45mbit upload and download costs...

plus these servers are not some POS LINUX server on some universities T3 hosting CS..

each server for the big MMOs is actually usually a cluster of 10-30 sub servers per shard..
the average MMO is running 40-50 servers like this around the world.. we are talking millions of dollars of upkeep per year....
not to mention salaries of desigers and artists to maintain the games constantly evolving stories features and items
salaries for 24 hour support for customers... Billing systems and other CS Associated tasks..
the you got the technical behind the scenes network engineers and server ops...

these are not mickey mouse operations.. it takes a HUGE amount of capitol and a Huge amount of talent and dedcation to run a sucessful MMO..

the games are a bargain at 15 a month... I spend more than that on 1 trip to the movies...
and ill get over 100 hours a month entertainment out of an MMO

Played both.

Do I really want to write a long rant now... hmmm.

My experience with EQ2 was pretty awful and WoW was quite good. There's the cliff's notes for you.

I'll say one thing, EQ2 had long loading screens everywhere.

Since I have not purchased either of the games, I always like to hear wht other people have to say. So, I usually go to gaming wensites that allow the users to rate the games themselves. So far at Gamespot:

WoW 850 ratings, 11 reviews score 9.2

EQ2 577 ratings, 38 reviews score 6.9

Of course the best point of view will be your own, but unfortunately $50 is a bit much to test out a game for a month, only to find out you hate it after a week. It's not like a PS2 or Xbox game, which if you seriously disliked after a week, you probably could get at least 75% of your money back.

Personally, I think these mmorpg's have a long way to go, before they actually play like an RPG. I think RPG has been lost in the concept. They should just be called mmog, because the storylines are lost.

All my friends are playing WoW for one thing - the PvP. If you are looking for a traditional mmorpg PvE experience I think you'd be better off with EQ2. I'm a FFXI player and I think it's better than both. There was one (yes one) bug introduced in the recent expansion that was quickly fixed. Neither WoW nor eq2 look to offer anything over ffxi to me. Although if I had to pick one I would try WoW it seems really casual and not alot of time investment. This is all my opinion though.

The only concern I have with WOW, is like in Diablo 2. you get up to say level 60, and it takes a year and a day to get to the next level. It basically comes to a point where you get tired of trying to level up past a certain point...........

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. The level cap in wow is 60.
